Here I am

Who makes affordable clutches for our CTD's (read to understand!)

Thanks, TDR Staff

Were to find a good deal on an HX 40

Transmission shudder

Competed in my first sled pull last night..... slipped my TST thoroughly and fried it!#@$%!

I was planning on a SBC Street Dual Disk at the first of the year (when income tax rolls around)... but now I need something to hold me over till then because I can't afford it right now.

I just wondered what other companies manufacture clutches for our CTD's besides SBC. Because if I even go with a mild SBC like a Con OFE it would be 1/2 of Street DD and I can't justify spending that much money to just turn around a get the DD at the first of the year.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Mark,

Mark...

While one can understand your plight, think hard about what you have asked here. I have been down the "questionable" clutch road twice before I became a member here along time ago. The second such incident was just repaired recently by a very reputable shop who make a great product(I'll not mention the name here to help this stay on the threads course for you).

The last 2 in my truck were a Centerforce and a single disc McCleod. The Centerforce was a purchase by me(I have ran their race clutches in my high performance cars for years)as in the past their products have served me well. What a mistake that was. I learned they no nothing about diesels and what happens with way to much torque and had the parts lying around here till recently from that destruction when it flew apart. The McCleod(which was purchased on a recommendation from a member here who also posts elsewhere and spoke highly of them) was better and I got about 1 1/2 years on it with near the same power you have,BUT,I never pulled with it or drag raced it. When it came out it was coming apart and was fried.

Now for my last comment...

Obviously its your truck and wallet and budgets are a major concern. Why pay for 2 clutch jobs in less than a year(one now and one after the new year as stated by you)?. You certainly will end up spending more total than doing it right the first time. If you have any questions I can help with feel free to pm me or email me(you should have my direct email box,I think, unless you deleted it)... ... ... Andy

parcher has it. Plenty of people have changed their stock clutches with probably very few miles on them. Hit ebay, or the classifieds on here and search around. You chould be able to find something to tide you over till the money comes.

Problem Solved!

Well I have a temporary fix for my problem. Oo.

My friends at Black Mountain Diesel in Cythiana KY have graciously sent me the best OEM take-out they have out of their pile. Should last me till the first of the year I hope. My #10 is coming out and the OE plate going back in. Other than that I have one major load I need to tow at the first of Sept. which is a 25ft goose with my 79 Chevy 3/4 on it!:D

But I'm going to start saving now and get a Dual Disk either SBC or Mitchel at the first of the year. Haven't decided yet, but have plenty of time.

Thanks to all for you comments.

I believe SBC makes an economy clutch called the Rally clutch.

I almost bought one, but decided to go for a heavier duty unit. Think it is slightly stronger than stock.
