Well, I found out that my headgasket is going out behind the t-stat housing. So now I need to know where to get a new head gasket.

Should I get an OEM one from the dealer or go aftermarket? If aftermarket is recommended, then who?

Well, cummins NW says that they have a new gasket that solves the problem of the spot behind the t-stat housing leaking before the rest:

P/N: 4089649

It's like $170!

Go with an OEM head gasket.

They even come in thicker sizes from the marine applications... just in case you want to lower the compression ratio just a bit... in order to run more boost.

PDR stocks 'em in the various thicknesses.

Other brands of head gaskets do not hold up anywhere near as well as the OEM Cummins gasket.

Chris,

I got a HG set from Cummins last summer for around $160. Included $75 of injector washers (retail, anyway), valve seals, every gasket remotely related to head R&R, including t-stat gasket. Since you are a "broke" college student, you can resell what you dont use. I wouldnt get it from anywhere else. Not even Dodge. I'll look up the p/n for the kit; gaskets only (as of last Aug) are 3283335, 3283337, 3283339, for stock, +. 010", and +. 020", respectively.

Talk to some of the performance enthusiasts in the "other" 12V forum, and see how much thicker you need to go. I'd go at least . 010 over, maybe even . 020, since you want to go all out.

You gonna get the head ported while you got it off? Then you'll need some bigger injectors. Oo. Oo. :D :D Maybe a bigger turbo. We want pics of the exhasut when you get it.

Mine went 245K. And it was the supposedly weaker one; plus run hard, and put up wet. Hmmm. That brings back memories of when I was CB's age, but we wont go there today. ;)

The Cummins is the used gasket and is behind the Fel-pro
