Hi Folks

In preparation for a four month road trip to Alaska and the Yukon territories I'm planning to install a new lift pump close to the tank.

A few days ago I ordered the new style modified lift pump, part number 4932707 from Cummins. It arrived in a Cummins box that was opened and resealed but showing the correct part number. The only number on the new pump is # 27076B07B. On the bottom of the pump stamped in the case is the word CARTER.

Is Carter an OEM supplier to Cummins? do I have the modified pump? Enquiring minds need to know...

Thank guys

Dick

Is Carter an OEM supplier to Cummins? Yes.

do I have the modified pump? Who knows! The number on the "$60 pump" (actually fifty-nine and change) that I have that was part of the NHTSA Recall Campaign for the transfer pump used in some applications is 27075L121B versus the 27076B07B you have. The pump used for the recall supposedly has an internal bypass that allows the VP44 to more easily suck fuel with a failed transfer pump.

Thomas,

Thank you for your informative reply. In reading Cummins statement re the new design lift pump allowing an easier bypass that you pointed out. I just want to make sure that it is the correct pump with that feature. I have spent about three hours on the Internet trying to chase down the part number on the new Carter pump but no luck.

Thanks much and enjoy the weekend.

Regards,Dick

What year is the truck? I'm assuming it has a 24v engine, since you are asking about the lift, correct? If not, Carter still made the lift pumps for Cummins.

If you need a part number for a 12v, do a search using my username. I have a thread on the subject. The p/n is from C-IH, though. Basically the same pump, but have to swap a fitting.

Here's the info on what is referred to as the latest "campaign pump":

The Service/Parts topic states:

"This Service/Parts Topic announces the release on new fuel lift pumps for the ISB & QSB VP44 series engines. The new fuel lift pump, Part Number 4932707, obsoletes and supersedes the previous fuel lift pumps (Parts Number 3990105). The new fuel lift pump has a internal bypass circuit in the rotor housing that allows fuel to be drawn, with less restriction, from the fuel tank to the fuel injection pump in the event of an inoperable fuel lift pump. There are no visual differences between the new fuel lift pump and the old fuel lift pump. The new fuel lift pump can only be identified by the part number. "

Hi, It is a 1999. The "new" lift pump that I received, a Carter, has the part #(?) stamped on the body. It does not match the NEW part number that is on the box, and stated in Cummins latest release re ISB & QSB applications.

Just finished installing the Dipricol fuel pressure gage & isolator. Found a clean way to get the hose through the firewall. From the engine compartment on the drivers side, looking aft there is a rubber diaphragm high and to the right of the reinforcent plate for the steering gear. i pierced the rubber from the drivers compartment and pulled the line through. 20# PSI at idle.

not sure but the diesel tech near my home said that the original lp's where federal pumps and you would be lucky if they worked out of the box.

I have my original LP sitting out on the workbench in my garage - I can take a pic and post it, where "CARTER" is clearly stamped on it - I sorta doubt Federal would do that... ;) :D

I'm guessing you have an automatic? That rubber plug is used for the clutch linkage on manual transmission trucks.

I'm wondering why the 24 valve lift pump problems aren't posted on the 24 valve forum. It's certainly part of the engine system.

well thats fine i wasn't sure before myself and just gave the info that i was told if you have an original that says carter then its carter. as you can tell by my sig im not a 24v person so i have no first hand knowledge in that area and i have to rely more on what others have told me.

That's why you 24Vers have so much trouble with the lift pumps. Jimmy Carter had his hand in it. I supprised they work at all.
