I finally have enough saved up in the BOMB fund and am ready to purchase a cam plate, I have been leaning towards the TST #8 230/605, but also know that Banks, JRE and BullyDog (Group Purchase for $199. 00 made by a local shop called "City Diesel") make plates in various HP & Torque ratings.

Any compelling pro/con to go with one manufacturer over another?

I put my money in TST, Mark the owner worked for 20+ year for Cummins. I have found all his products and instruction very very good. I have also found that his HP & Torque #s are right on the money at the rear wheels.

TST fan here, I'm running the #11 plate and LOVE IT! With the stock turbo the egt's will hit 1300 deg. in 4th or 5th when the rpm's are above 2600 rpm, but the powerband is so wide you don't need to rev that high, just shift gears. This plate really woke up my truck #ad

A 98 truck with an automatic takes a #5 plate you can see the application chart here- http://www.dieselpage.com/tstpk.htm
the chart is about 1/4th the way down the page.

I tow a 5000lb, rather tall travel trailor and have no problems with egt's while towing. On a 5% grade I can slow up to 60mph and punch it, and the truck will accelerate to 80 plus mph(had to lift because of disapproval from spouse #ad
) passing everything in sight, all in 5th gear! With the stock plate I had to pull this same grade in 4th gear.

I have no finacial interest in TST products, just love their product.

I am very happy with my JRE Stage III plate. Can`t get EGT over 1100 degrees. Ted had his own plates manufactured after he experimented with others. He said some of them seemed like ALL the power hit at 2000rpms like a ton of bricks and then fall off. He thought this was tough on drivetrain parts. The JRE plates are designed to have the fueling come on more gradually. I love mine.

My vote is with Jannetty Racing! I had a #2 in my '98 12 valve and it worked great! When I sold the truck i pulled it out and put it in a friends '97 one ton and he's still smiling plus getting 100 more miles to the tank full towing. He got the plate and I got a hidaway gooseneck hitch in the bed of my new truck, great swap #ad
