I was wondering what company has the hottest/most powerful fueling box out there. Is it TST's PM 3 competition model? I here Mark Chapple can program the comp box as hot as the user desires but you have to sign a waiver before he does it. Is it the Bluechip premium model 0-63% fueling, or Edge drag comp. Gee, I wonder why I'm asking.
:D

My Powermax3 Competition did beat the BlueChip FMS on the dyno at Scheids, by more than 20 HP.

Great for sled pulling, etc. but I wouldn't recommend running it all the time on the street, unless you have the $$$$ and sources to replace an injection pump, that's why the waiver. "Competition " says it all. Don't play if you can't pay.

The regular Powermax3 has enough "hold onto your hat, granny" power to satisfy even the most hardcore. The program in that one is especially sweet when matched with a Piers Hx40 turbo and big injectors.

Thanks for the reply Tom, I suspected it was the PM comp box but wasn't sure. When you say big injectors, just how big are we talking? By the way, congrats on the opening of your new business. -Ray-

I think the PM3 can be programed WAY HOT... . close to 80 % I think..... at this level it is only a matter of time before component failure.

I would not underestimate the Power Edge Drag Comp. It is one of the more popular boxes. Mine give me 130 HP!Oo. :D

Thanks, Ray ! Shop is going good, especially happy to be selling Mark Chapple's fine TST Powermax products!

Bob brings up an excellent point however... the Edge Comp has the added benefit of timing built into it, it is really two boxes in one. I haven't dyno'ed with an Edge Comp against the others. I wish I had, it would be an interesting comparision.

You asked about "big injectors. " I run DD3's on the street. Something else on the track. :D The combination of DD3's and any fueling box will put out more fuel than an Hx40 can burn.

most powerful fueling box is made of wood and the box contains a p pump it comes from piers or backeast from the likes of eep

Gotcha

With the PM3comp box and a 4" exhaust and K&N 08081(?) I have seen around 34 psi boost. That is with the stock HX_35 on a 2002 ETH. Oh and the box was only on setting 5. I'm too scared to go any higher and let it loose.

Go with the PM3 comp and you won't be sorry.

Whoa! The purpose to the TST waiver on their comp box is to agree not to use it "on the street" because TST has a CARB certification for their street versions of the PowerMax. The comp is not so certified, and if CARB querstions TST, they need to show the non-approved version was sold for competition use. Mark told me he might make one or two levels lower than stock power for snow, etc. in the future while keeping the upper levels very strong.

As for the pump problems, some seem traceable to quality problems in the injection pump (as Chip has written on his website) and some to poor lift pumps.

The lift pump on the 2003 is pretty interesting. It is a little guy on the side of the fuel filter housing.

Looking for Dyno numbers? I've got them!

These dyno numbers are with a Jardine 4" exhaust and a Psychotty air filter.

These number were all on the same Dyno-Jet Dyno, the same one that we use for Diesel Thunder in Spokane.

Here is the info;

2/7/2001- Bully Dog III's, stock HX35 288. 2 HP 569. 3 Torque

8/18/2001- Bully Dog III's with PE Drag Comp (Bill Kondalay's during Diesel Thunder) and Stock HX40 460. 1 HP 857 Torque

8/18/2001- Bully Dog III's, stock HX40, PE EZ and PE with Hot #3, 458. 5 HP 871. 8 Torque (Diesel Thunder)

8/18/2001- Bully Dog III's with standard PE Comp and Stock HX40 453. 5 HP 885. 9 Torque (Diesel Thunder)

10/27/2001- Bully Dog III's with standard PE Comp and Piers HX35 12 cm housing 427 HP no torque (This was on BD's Mustang Dyno during Dyno Days, all other readings are on the DynoJet)

5/08/2002- Bully Dog III's, Piers HX35 12cm housing, with PE Comp 422. 9 HP 856. 3 Torque

8/12/2002- Bully Dog III's, Piers HX35 14 cm housing with PE Drag Comp 430. 2 HP 825. 2 Torque

I took the HX40 off (1700 spool up towing just didn't cut it) and went to Piers HX35 with a 14 CM Housing. The 14cm housing give me alot more mid and top end compared to the 12 cm housing. Spool up was 1360 with the 12 cm housing, now with the 14cm housing spool up is at 1440 rpms.

The difference between the standard Comp (fuels through 27-2800 RPM's) and the Drag Comp fuels through 3200 RPM's)

And like Briar said the Power edge products advance the timing.

Edge Product is great to work with, their customer service is tops!

I highly recommend their products, and I love the adjustability for towing.

And one last thing, DIESEL THUNDER is on September 7th! Hope you can make it.

Joe,

You were writing your post the same time I was writing mine.

If I'm not mistaken, CARB certification would only applies to the states that require Diesel testing for emissions. Is this right? Idaho, Montana and Washington don't require emission tests for diesels, so I don't worry about it. :D Oo. Which states require Diesel emission testing?

Hey Joe D, is the new Diesel Dynamics vp44 pump beefed up over the stock pump? Will it be able to handle the upper levels of the TST comp box? Specifically levels 7-9. -Ray-

Big Bob,

Where you live in Idaho doesn't require emissions? Down in Boise you have to emissions test diesels. I think it started 2yrs ago.

PE COMP with DD's chip in it. Gave me 160hp or so. "my" chip dynoed higher the day before so I put it back in.

This was done with BD IV's in the truck, Lawrence forgot to turn the COMP on when he ran it the first time, so I compared the two numbers.

I'll be sure to do a off/on comparision again this coming Wed or Thursday after my turbo swap.

The point of the TST waiver form is that they are not held accountable (and be forced to recall boxes) by CARB if someone is caught in CA smoking with a comp box on the truck.

The DD VP44 is beefed about as well as can be. However, it is not bullet proof and one is still well advised to be sure the lift pump and feed lines give it lots of fuel.

Mine is 80%!

I've been running my PM3 for 2years now. I got it when the PM3 was first introduced, so it lived life with a standard program up until early this summer. I do drag race my truck at the track, so I had called Mark at TST and explained what I needed in a drag program.

My custom program fuels in 80% and backs off slightly at top rpm to keep from shuddering when shifting, and the governor in the TST keeps fueling to 3300rpm before it de-fuels.

It's a very wicked box so I don't run it on the street... no need to since the injectors/ttpm are plenty for normal driving and towing.

Edge Drag Comp

My truck used to make 200 horsepower with the Comp on. We went from 400 to 601.

Now the baseline is 458 and I need to get back to the dyno to see what it totals out at with the comp on.
