Was speaking with my BIL this past weekend. He works for corporate Nissan Canada and runs the division the techs call when they are stumped. He just finished training at Cummins on the new truck platform.

It has an Aisin trans behind it but he did not know the model #. I asked about expected engine life etc and he said Cummins would not say as it is there first engine with a timing chain and alumimum heads. They are expecting it too last AS long as the gasser with superior power and mileage. He said it is a very robustly built truck for a 1/2 ton.

It's just to big to get the mileage even close to the ED3.0, Its to small to pull the big loads 10K plus. The price will be close to 3/4 Cummins/D-Max/Ford. The only hope Nissan has is cost. it needs to be at ED price BC people will buy the 3/4 if it even gets close to 3/4 cost.

It does have all the right stuff to be a great Truck ,its just not enough truck and the cost will be the determining factor.

I agree with TC. The cost factor of the light weight trucks is going to MAKE or BREAK these 1/2 ton trucks.

I need an 8' bed so, regardless of brand, so neither will will for me. When comparing the costs of a 3/4-1
ton diesel to a 1/2 ton diesel for essentially the same price, it doesn't make any sense why someone would pay top dollar for the 1/2 ton truck. But then again, registration fee's for the heavier rated truck might mean a whole lot to some people.

I for one will never buy a 1/2 ton diesel with the current pricing. it doesn't pencil out for us.

I question the price as being the deciding factor. When Toyota changed their Tundra design, they were asking nearly as much as a low end DRW CTD, and sold them anyway, and people bought them over SLT 2500 CTD's that cost the same. The biggest advantage Nissan has over Toyota, is that they have a 3/4 ton platform and frame that could easily challenge our Rams if they go after the 3/4 ton truck market with their Cargo/Service Van that is 3/4 ton.

In The early nineties I could have gone with Any of the 3 - Ford/Chevy/Dodge. Luckily I never learned any prejudices from the old man.
But (in 95) the Cummins sealed the deal - wasn't a hard decision really.
Back then 18-20+MPG, in cheaper diesel, was a no brainer over 12 MPG V8 in gas
Later traded the 95 Reg. cab 5 sp. for a 2002 quad cab 6 sp. (24 valve, open injectors, no emissions)
Between the 2 been driving the same thing for about 20 years and 1/2 a million miles, and loved every minute.
now today for a new dodge it's a choice between the HD 2500/3500 with the HD price, especially for an Aisin automatic.
Or a Motori Diesel in the 1500.
Will take quite a while to recoup the initial investment over gas in either.
Also, though the trailer weight is decent in the 1500, diesel payload #'s are a joke.
Is a Cummins engine worth switching manufacturers?
It was in 95, and of course it still is today (Nissan). "Cummins" is the operative word for me, not necessarily "Diesel"
The real question for me anyway is with diesel going from less than regular gas, to Super prices and above,
And a whole lot of extra complexities (Piezo injectors, back to glo-plugs, DEF fluid. EGR, DPF, Synthetic oil, V8 etc.)
Is for the Once a month/once a week trailering folks like me, a V8 gas a viable or better option, especially in total cost of ownership.
My Current Ram 2500 Ride runs and pulls like it did when new, but the chassis gets a B or C grade over the last 13 years (depending on what breaks next).
So for me if it turns out it needs to be a diesel to get the Job done,
then yes of course with a Cummins (and an Aisin) the Titan has to be very seriously considered.

I looked at the 4x4 Nissan yesterday at the Phoenix Auto Show and it was very impressive. The first thing I noticed was the GVWR of 8,900, a full 2,000 more than many of the Ram 1500 trucks. It had a very large frame rail although it was more exposed than the Ram and made the truck sit pretty high. The way it sat most people would need side steps to comfortably get in and out. The engine bay was not too cramped, it had large brakes and axles. Interior was large and leather seats were very comfortable in front as well as rear. Not sure of the price point as this truck was built in August so most likely a pre-production model. Also interesting that many of the vehicles on display did not have Monroney labels.

One thing I've learned over the years ... don't buy the first 3 years. Let them get the major bugs out first. I do plan on looking when they get to the dealers.

I can't vote on this because the poll was closed. I would not buy a Nissan anything. For that matter anything made in Japan, I have my reasons.

It's made in Tennessee.

Pilsner Urquell is a good choice, the inventor of pilsner beer, love it seeing how I can't get my EKU pilsner in the US anymore.

I have purchased several first year production vehicles 1) 1992 Dodge Dakota with the Magnum V8, the first MPFI engine. 2) 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 HD, that started the Ram popularity. 3) 2004.5 CTD. 4) 2007 C&C 6.7 CTD (If it wasn't for an update to the ECM in 09, it would be flawless.

I'd have no issue buying the Titan, afterall the Titan has been out for awhile now, and Cummins & Aisin has been good proven producers.
