hammersley,

I bought mine quite some time ago from Channellock online.

The 15" pair is 20. 96 and the 13" which I would buy is 17. 45. Free shipping. I seldom use the larger size. I usually remove my BHAF for better access. Although my filter is never as tight as the factory jobs are of course, I think this tool would do the trick.

FWIW, I think Channellock products work well for the price.

No wrench??

Thru two CDTs I have never used a wrench to tighten the new filter. Never had a leak either & filters are still tight when changed.

Dang, roadrunner, I must be doin' somethin' wrong.

The Stealer got to do the first oil change, then I did the second one. (only 14,000 mi. so far)

I tightened up the new filter by hand, and when I started 'er up it puked a quart and a half down the driveway by the time I shut 'er down!

I had to put a wrench on the filter- a Fleetguard Stratopore- to get it tight enough to seal up. What's up with that??

What a bunch of wimps - I removed my factory filter off with my thumb and baby finger. Sure... it was tight, but all I had to do is tickle it a little and it let go.

Roadranger, you should never have to use a wrench to INSTALL a filter... . several possibilities come to mind... defective threads on filter or truck, wrong filter with the right number on it, seal left behind (stuck) on oil filter mount when you removed old filter, or you cross-threaded the new filter. I've noticed the angle you hold the filter at has to be dead on, or it won't go on. Kinda hard to cross-thread it.

Roadranger, Briar could be right about the gasket being left on the base. It is almost impossible to cross-thred one of these filters. Or, it could be 'the angle of the dangle' :D :D

Magilla Gorilla was working the day my truck filter was put on at the factory:mad: I ended up using a nylon strap wrench, 1/2" long extension, 1/2" ratchet, with about a 2 foot cheater bar to get the factory filter off. It was tough even with all that. Of course it crushed the old filter can some while removing it. Since then, it has not been that difficult. :--)

I changed my factory filter this weekend. Friday I tried a regular filter wrench (metal strap type with a handle), that didn't work. Then I tried a big f'n screwdriver, all that did was tear through the metal and enlongate the hole when I tried to turn it. I gave up friday and drove my beater that night. Saturday I bought a metal strap type wrench with a 3/8" attachment. Tried a 3/8" breaker bar, nothin. Then I found a shovel handle in my back yard where the shovel blade broke off, but the metal "tube" at the end of the handle was still intact. I slipped the metal end over the breaker bar, gave it a lil push, and it came right off. Oo.
