Kindof an offtopic thing concerning the Mega-Cannon... .

As you may know, the Mega-Cannon gets it performance increase using two criteria:

> An excellent, super-efficient flow design with far more filter area than the standard filter.

> A more porous design allowing more air to flow through the filter media itself.

I have used this filter now for a year, and it not only gave me a performance boost, but was partially responsible for a slight mileage increase and lower EGT's. However, I have become concerned about the micron particle size that is allowed to pass through the media, in the context of engine longevity.

So I called the fine folks at AFE, and expressed my concerns. Lo and behold, apparently others have expressed this same concern, so AFE will be coming out with a filter that has the same efficient design as the original, but has 7 layers of filter media for excellent filtration of dirt and other foreign particles. It will mount right on the AFE mount, and apparently looks like the original. Here's their message:

We are actually introducing a new filter line that offers exactly what you are looking for in the next 30 or so days. It will be called the Proguard7 and offers the benefits of both a higher flow and increased protection. This filter line uses 7 layers of media. I don't have the pricing yet, but if you check back in about a month, we can get you the

final information.

This was about 1 - 2 weeks ago, so for those people like myself that want more protection, it should be coming shortly.

FWIW,

Robert did they say anything about cleaning this new element? Just makes me wonder how you would flush it out with multiple. i like the sound of this but have been running a afe cone for over a year now and have had very good oil analysis numbers showing the filter working but also a minor film on the turbo blades which does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Please keep us posted on this if you learn anything new.

Thanks

Ted

I have been running the hi density AFE pre-production unit for some time now. It is cleaned the same way as the standard version. The oil samples have been great, with the truck seeing the sand dunes of Glamis,Borrego desert, forrest service roads and about everything in between.

I have been testing this filter for aFe since they first came up with it. I tow heavy on dirt roads daily in my tractor business and found that I could pull dirt through any filter except paper ones. With my power mods the paper ones didn't flow enough air, and the high boost (42lbs) would pull dirt through any cloth filter previously tried. This new filter media stops dirt like a paper one but flows as well as their original media filter (as far as my egts go).

On the other cloth filters I tried, I found that I didn't get bad numbers from oil test data, however, when I removed the air tube from the filter housing to the turbo and wiped with a clean damp white cloth I would get fine residue that was deposited on the inside of the tube. I was concerned about the damage this could cause even though the oil analysis only showed between 9 and 12 ppm. With the new filter media, there was NO deposit. I have tested the tube on numerous occasions with perfectly clean results.

Needless to say I am sold on this filter, after searching for years for something that works this good.

To Bob & Bob from Bob :D

Do you guys have a more accurate release date than I got from Eric @ AFE? We're going on a trip the first of June, Id like to have it installed before then.

Thanks.

remember those old reeses peanut butter commercials?

i'm looking for an AFE mount/heat shield but don't want the filter. i want to run a BHAF paper filter.

you interested in splitting a kit?

Possibly interested in splitting a kit.

Give me a couple days to shop around for the filter only.

If I dont find one, I'll buy a complete unit and sell the heat shield.
