I am looking for a rear crankshaft seal kit for a 2006... .

I am wanting the whole kit: seal, installation tool, and whatever else i am gonna need to do this... .

THANKS

as the whole kit? with install tool?

I am assuming they easy to install?

Was told if i can change my own oil or serpintine belt i can install a seal!

This one is for a 2001. The white plastic is the insertion tool. You will also need to buy the gasket for the retainer that fits over this. The white plastic is on the very inside diameter of the seal and serves as a guide that allows you to just slide it in.

You do realize that will have to drop the transmission and pull the clutch and pressure plate.

So how come you are already replacing the rear seal

Check this thread for what you are getting into.

dropped the transmission and transfer to put in OFE and noticed the back of stock flywheel had oil all over it... So looked at the rear crankshaft seal and it looks like it has been seeping oil out.....

Yeah i was suprised too with only having 6k on it.

I changed mine out at 170,000 and I had a little oil. What type of oil are you using?? Seems like your not even broke in yet. Makes me wonder it the seal is seated in?? I am suprised at 6k :(

  You know it might be worth your time to talk with Cummins about this. DC probably will not want to honor a warranty, but Cummins might have some insite as to the why of it. I know they make a repair kit for the crankshaft that is slipped in when the area gets worn and grooved from the seal.

Did you notice any kind of oil excissive consumption? I would defianitly be looking over the old seal and the crankshaft mating surface where the seal rides real close looking for nicks or other odities.

No oil consumption at all... ... The oil on the back of the flywheel is just a drop or 2..... like its a moist/wet/dry oil..... Maybe it a defective seal? Crankshaft looks fine around where the seal would go in..... So i dont know i am just thinkin maybe a bad seal or didn't get seated properly?????????????????

Just a drop or 2. :) Ahhh, I thought you were dripping gobs of the stuff. My bet is the seal is ok. You are probably just seeing normal minimal seapage.

I would just wipe everything down with a little laquer thinner to clean up any residue and dust, dust out the rest of the bell housing with compressed air and put the clutch in.

If you had a small stream or traces of steaming then yea it would need to be looked at real close. A drop or two seems normal to me. . Is the area dry or is it all greasy moist??

I agree, if it is not WET I wouldn't worry about it now.

Well I got the seal today after work... . First off i called and priced it at the dealer, then i called my cummins NW... ... Came out like this

DC dealer:$80. 00

Cummins:$40. 00

So you rpobably know where i got it ... . But anyway I borrowed a slide hammer and screwed it the old seal gave her a couple slides and popped right out... ... Then pushed the new one in most of the way by hand then finished it off with the supplied tool... ...

Now should be good to go... ... I think it takes longer to change an air filter in the truck .

THANKS everyone that helped

You know, after your get it all put back together, I would take a photo looking up through the bottom and then when you get another 6k on it and on this seal, pull out the photo and grab a inspection light and mirror and go look at it again, just out of curosity. :)
