Who to get NV4500 conversion from

Just wondering who may have the best deal on a NV4500 conversion. I did take note that Standard trans and gear will take a getrag as a core for the 4500. There price is around $2100 for the kit. Let me know thanks... .

When mine finally goes, which probably won't be too long now, I'm going to go with Quad 4x4s kit. It's right around 3k, but you get a brand new transmission with the fully splined main, not a rebuild. I have a friend who went the rebuild route on his 1st gen, and I think he snapped 2 input shafts before going to a second gen.

I got my kit from quad 4x4. The video they send you really makes it alot easier and Dan was there to answer any questions. His service was exclent.



They send you EVERYTHING you need. They even sent me anti seize and the blue locktite.

transmission swap

Got mine from Blumenthals in Okla City 30,000 miles of hard towing at 26000# later this transmission is still very strong and working hard. Rebuilt with all the latest updates from the mfg. and a 6 mo unlimited warr.

2 weeks ago was able to test the warr. and tech help. The 5th gear nut worked loose and gear slipped off (sound familiar). Their response was perfect. They shipped new nut and gear even though it was not needed and we all agreed that problem was due to heavy tow weights and pulling in 5th.

They also agreed to pay the shop repair bill to make the repairs needed.

I did not mention it to them but that @#$%^%^ nut is welded on this time.

I figure I will warranty the darned 5th gear myself and let them warr the rest of the transmission. Time off work cost me far more than the repair would have.

What is the latest wisdom on how much oil to put in, 4 qts to fill hole or over fill by 1 qt. ? Their instructions were very clear 5 quarts.

RC, factory fill to fill hole is 3. 5qts, might not even get that in there with the angle the transmission sits. Just fill til it runs out of fill hole, plug it, then add the next 1. 5qts through PTO cover bolt. Total of 5qts= 1. 5qt overfill, this is what I run.

I think I'd be a tad upset if my new transmission started giving me problems at 30k, at least they didn't try to screw you.

Thats why I went with the Quad 4x4 kit. Their kit w/o the fully splined mainshaft was 2600 but I opted for it for the 3k. After having my old getrag try and strand me in the middle of nowhere Montana w/ my sled on the back I wanted something I could trust.

Don't know about the best deal !!! I ordered a New NV4600 & South Bend Con OFE from Dan at Quad 4X4 yesterday. Not the best price but he talked my language (able to answer my questions without hesitation) Obviously Dan knows his business on the NV4500 & NV 5600's .



I talked to Standard Trans. in Ft. Worth , sure they do a good job too , but could not answer specific questions right away. I would expect the people that answer the phone to be more knowledgeable than they came across especially since manual transmission's are all they do!!!



Another factor was Stan. Trans did not do flywheel work and Quad 4X4 does and I needed that. I believe the Quad 4X4 has a conversion kit for first gens to an NV4500?? Price , quality can't say. I'll report back to the forum after I get it all installed and tested and give my opinions if any interested.

I got mine at BLUMENTHALS too. They had the best price at the time,and took the old GUTBAG off my hands as the core for the NV4500.

Quad 4x4 is one of the best places to get parts and repair kits for our trucks.



You wont be dissapointed. I orderd that same package and My transmission shifts so very nice compared to the old getrag. The clutch has a nice feel to it I just have to rember that I need to put the pedal all the way down as this clutch isnt half worn out.



Only thing I need to do is put my front driveline back in and weld up the 4x4 shifter.



I looked at several other places before I went with quad 4x4 but Dan's quick service and great support made me a customer from now on.



Plus I got a free hat and some nifty stickers!
