Who wants to do an NV4500 converion?

The getrags hangin in there for now. But when the time comes its gonna get a NV5600, and maybe even a twin disk clutch(street version), just so I can occasionally hook to the sled and run with the new trucks! Got the motor I think, but can't pull a tall enough gear off the line to get enough wheel speed!!



I want the 6spd because I tow heavy and could get good use out of an extra gear. Wouldn't have to wind it so hard to get the next gear.

Looking back, knowing what I know now, and because I tow HEAVY, I would have voted for the NV4500. Now I have one.



I can see Jay's point of view but the GETRAG is weak if you have to punish it towing.



If you like your GETRAG and tow loads, I suggest you overfill the oil by a quart or more and add a temp gauge. If you have to rebuild, I'd go for the conversion instead (not that much more $$).

Dump the getdrag it's a boat anchor. The nv4500 has a better gear raito between 2nd and 3rd when pulling a heavy load.

Your going to do some cutting on the floor to get it to fit. but well worth it.

I had 65000 miles on my 1992 hauling a camper and pulling a 4 horse trailer. The front bearing starting to wine. Replaced with a NV4500 out a 96 with a 100k miles on it and have no regrets.

I'm going to rebuild my getrash right now as It's cheap. Under 500 bucks for new bearings and everything else in the case looks good.



My friend was telling me they make a pocket bearing upgrade that makes it a real bearing and it's only 100 bucks. He says w/ that update most of them are fine w/o problem.



I want to get a nice Eaton Fuller or a 5600. I just dont have the time or the $$ right now as I just got a job after a few weeks of layoff time.



Anybody know of information on a Eaton Fuller conversion?

I am happy with the Getrag for the time being. If a replacement is in order, might learn a bit more about what Eaton transmissions would provide. Not haveing to use the clutch all the time sounds great.
