Just got back from ice fishing and sitting out on that ice I thought up a bunch of questions:



1. What is the point of running high sulfur off-road fuel in a newer diesel?



2. Has anyone here "y"ed the exhuast on there truck? I want to "y" my exhaust and bring it out both sides in front of my back wheels. Has anyone here done that... and how did you cross over and everything?



3. What is a "Banks High Ram"?



4. How often should you change the fuel filter?



5. I have found the tach slot in the PCM. It is like terminal 43 or something like that. If I got a tach, would the wire have to run all the way to that? What kind of voltage goes to the tach?



6. I heard that these 2. 5" leveling springs are great for the 4x4 diesels to help the ride... are they hard to put on?



7. Should I change out the transfer case fluid while I'm changing out the transmission fluid? What oil does it take?



8. How much does the rear differential take for oil?



9. I want to build myself a big bull bar type bumper. Kind of like the one that that Earthroamer guy has on his truck. I want to make it out of plate steel and some tubing. Can you guys send me some links or post some pictures of your bumpers so I can get some ideas?



10. What's next after the fuel pump and turbo mods? I was thinking probably the injectors.

I really want to start tricking out this truck. I am going to go over the whole thing and change all the fluids, like the differential and the transmition at my next oil change (I do them myself). I'm going to run some conditioner through the truck, and start doing my modifications. I think this is going to be an awesome truck when I'm done. I'm so excited!
 
1. To save money. red fuel does not have road taxes included in the price. The fine for getting caught with red fuel is impressive. I have heard.



2. no I have not.



3. A Banks high ram is a intake setup for a 2nd gen truck. It can be made to fit on ours. But it will be a lot of work.



4. I would change the fuel filter about every two oil changes. Or 10k miles



5. There is a plug down under the steering colum that is the factory plug for the tach. If you do a search on tach in 1st gen section you can find the wiring layout on this plug.



6. If your talking about the SkyJacker 2. 5 inch lift setup. Everyone talks good about it for ride and bring the front backup where it belongs.



7. I would change it out at that time. The transfer case uses 75w/90w. I use Havaline syn in mine. It hold 3 pints if memory serves me right. Do a band adjustment on the trans while you have the pan down.



8. I use the same thing in the drive axles.



9. Look in readers rigs for Bushwkr's truck. If he was lived closer to me. I would have his bumper. :)



10. What is left. How much money you have, left decides that. There are many people here that can help ytou spend it on goodies. :)



Ice fishing and thinking this much. You must have a heated shack. LOL

On our trucks manual first and second gear have bands. These bands need adjusted every 36k or so. If you do not have a repair manual for your truck you should pick on up. They are a life saver at times. It gives all repair procedures / troubleshooting you would need for any problems your truck might have.



I would completely drain the axle. Clean up the inside of the center section and then reinstall the cover with a new gasket then refill with fluid.



Red fuel isn't worth it if you get caught.

Hey CB,



A Bank's high ram is for a 24-valve engine and a twin ram is for a 1994-1998. 5 12 valve. But a twin ram can be adapted to our trucks. It is a lot of work though. I have ran red fuel in my truck from the farm. It seems to have a bit more power, but not worth the fine if you get caught. I am running Standodyne fuel conditioner. Check out the link to my web site for capacities for your truck, http://home.earthlink.net/~sweeten1/1992_trucks.htm I am running 80W/90 in my t-case and axles. To change the axle fluid remove the covers and catch the oil in a pan. You can wipe the bottoms of the axle housing with a rag. Use RTV silicone to reseal the covers. Hope that answers a few things for you.

I have Chilton's manual. I never saw anything about bands. I'll check it out when I get home.



There are a couple of options for the transfer case... which one do I have?



What is this limited skip friction modifier thing? Do I need it?



What happens if you don't tune these bands in the transmission?



I have a very strong fealing that the guy who owned it before me never messed with this stuff. I'm going to baby this truck, it's an expensive investment, and it can be even more expensive if you don't take good care of it. I think I am going to give my truck a full service every six months or so.

Chiltons are good for holding a garage side door open for a breeze in the summer. But for about anything else. I would reccommend the factory manual.



Chiltons manuals were made for the not very experienced people. The factory manuals were made for the working mechanic.

Splitting the exhaust.
 
You have the 205 transfer case. It is the only one in that generation of cases that can Hole the torque of the Cummins.



When you do your rear axle. if you find two metal tags attached to your cover bolts. One will give the gear ratio. The other one will say. To add limited slip fluid to the differential. You can hope you have the second tag.



If you do not keep the second gear band adjusted. The trans will start slipping. That is very bad and expensive to.

The band adjustment is for automatic transmissions. You have a getrag so don't worry about it!



Do a search for manuals and you will find info on tech authority. They should have the chrysler manuals.

What is the common name of those types of bumpers? I say bull bar, but that is ussualy not a full bumper. I am trying to build a big tough looking one, kind of like the winch bumpers.



Those big bumpers look a lot better on 2nd generation trucks. The front of my truck is too straight. I will bring the middle out from the sides so it looks better, and so I have room for a winch if I ever get one. It's going to be difficult, but that makes it fun.



I've got all the oil I need, so this saturday I'm going to go over my whole truck and replace all the fluids. I'll look at all my hoses, wires and everything else while I'm at it.



I think I'll start a new post for the bumper and exhaust questions. I'll probably get more hits that way.



Still need info on the springs though.
