Well my truck's clutch cashed in it's chips last week, What clutch vendor do you guys recommend for a stock 93 D-350? The heaviest I tow are single cars on a gooseneck ,9k max. Truck has 3. 54's probably to switch to 3. 07's in the spring. Thanks for any replies

I have a Valair in my truck and am extremely happy with it. Southbend is a well respected clutch manufacturer also. Call and tell them what you are doing and they will recommend the correct clutch for your use. IMO get a clutch better than stock and it will last longer for you.

Hope this helps,

Good luck!

Regardless of your clutch selection, very interested in the result of your possible switch to 3. 08. My daily-driven, almost-always-unloaded, 3. 54-geared truck wants to know.

No option. South Bend Clutch.

I have used them many times and many people in our chapter use their clutch. I have NEVER heard a bad thing about them and they always will help you with the one that best suits your application.

As for the 3. 07, I love mine. My getrag and 3. 07 combo puts me at 60 MPH at 1600 rpm (5th). 90 MPH is at 2300 (5th). :D

Only thing you may want to know is the 3-4 shift gap becomes HUGE!! Between 37 MPH in the top of 3rd (2200 rpm) and the bottom end of 4th at 48 MPH (1500 rpm) is a spot that is near impossible to drive in. You either rev out and have no power, or you can listen to your transmission cry and rattle from the sub 1500 rpm power. Not bad while empty, but when towing, what a PIA. You can almost not build speed coming off a light. That is why my Gear Vendors went in during the summer. Now it is perfect.

I would second South Bend clutches. I've known Peter for better than 10 years and he and his people provide excellant products and service.

I would go with South Bend for sure! They have awsome customer service and will let you up grade and reface also. As for the 3. 07s I love mine too. . I don't have as big of a problem with the 3-4 like they mentioned . . the getrag does have wide gear spacing. If I tow I keep it in 4th 1. 1 direct. I always use first gear, and if I plow or do a lot of backing I use low range. . with the 3. 07s you can drive in low to almost 50-55mph. The only down side is there are no replacement ring and pinions available. . On my Excursion with 6 spd and cummins i'm looking into swapping the new ford 3. 31 gear set...

Thanks,

Deo

Thanks for the replies, the more I think about this the more Im thinkin the Getrag might have gone south, other than popping out of gear taking off in second and some low rpm gear rattle it WAS fine. wont know until I pull it out either way the clutch was chattering and needed to be changed out. Good info on the dead spot too. I went thru the whole 3. 07 parts availibility debacle on my '89 years ago, When I switch over I wont be selling the 354 rear thats for sure.
