I'm looking for anyone who has done any oil samples on a '04. 5-'07 5. 9 while using a smarty. I lost track of the number of miles on my oil and when i finally noticed I had 5500 on it (smarty on 3 while towing and 3 or 9 when not). Towing was about 20% of that. When I changed the oil it seems like it smelled worse than normal and looked like it had WAY more soot than normal. I typically try to change it at about 4500 miles but hadn't run #9 quite as frequently as I had this time. To complicate matters the last change i used Rotella where I typically use Valvoline premium blue. The time I tried Lubriguard (Warren Oil).

Any hard data welcome on the subject. I'm concerned I went longer than I should and might want to change out even before 4500. I probably should have done a sample since I was concerned, but just didn't have a kit handy.

TIA!

My last report from Blackstone came back normal after 4,000 miles on Delo 15-40 CI-4 oil. I only run Smarty on sw # 1. It included a 1500 run from Ca to Utah and back. My oil always looks terrible. I didn't notice anything different smell-wise.

I am pushing 8,000 miles on my Delo 15w40 at the advise of blackstone and my truck is heavily modified and flogged often. PM me and I will send you an one of my latest reports from them.

Well someone elses report won't mean anything to you. Just do an analysis on yours. I use Mopar 15w40. I have had a few on mine with Smarty/TST/EZ stacked, usually around 5k miles. Reports show normal where at that change miles.

I DD on the 130hp setting, use Cummins 15-40 oil and Cummins oil filters, and have a mix of hi way, city, and a little towing (31 foot RV 8000 lbs) Everything was good, except soot levels were moderate on the report. I change oil every 10,000km, I live in Canada and in the dodge service manual they recommend to change oil every 12,000km, so I was surprised to see the higher soot levels. Don't have any oil analyis from before the Smarty sorry < >
