Class Trip Time for all who passed the Test

recommend a good 45 acp pistol, somewhat compact?

I got one but I can't see you Doc! Maybe I am pointing it in the wrong direction. What direction are you?

Santa brought my Daughter a Meade ATX-70 telescope for Christmas. The auto star aiming system works great, but the 70mm scope is kind of small for seeing anything with detail.

You can see a ring around Saturn if its dark out, a couple months ago mars just looked like a "bigger" red dot, but we were in a place with lots of light so that might have been the problem. But the moon is cool, with the right lens the moon is bigger then your viewing area. And with the Auto Star it keeps the scope moving with the earth so you don't loose the stars in the scope.

Plus you can pick what you want to see, or do a "tonights best" tour with the auto star.

They sell Camera mounts for it I think, but when your looking near straight up, the camera could get in the way.

I think this scope will be on my Santa list. What do you guys think? Maybe I'll be able to use it in my proctology practice.

I don't think that kind of scope would go up me Doc. That might be uncomfortable:eek: Besides you would see more than you wanted to. I know the dr said I had a huge intestine:--) but I don't know about this one.

Doc think light gathering. This is only a 5" http://www.astronomics.com/main/howto.asp?n1=1&cat_id=7

Also if you plan on taking pictures you will need a drive motor. There are several that come as a complete package. They now come with GPS built in. Sure is nice when you are out in the boonies and are trying to setup. This can turn into a very expensive hobby or you can throw your money away when you get dissatisfied with the scope you bought.

If you don't plan on taking pictures or just want one to drag out and look at the heavens get a dobsonian. Above all get as large a mirror that you can afford. The larger the mirror the more light you gather. Don't worry so much about power. Just makes the scope have the jitters at the least little nudge and they are difficult to spot with. I use 25 power to peruse the heavens and if it looks interesting, I change out the eye piece. Hope this helps.

Grey Ghost, My reasons for choosing that scope is that I wish to have a scope that is:

a. light enough for me to handle alone (15# weight restriction)

b. can be used to watch wild life and scenery

c. able to view the moon and other space objects while hanging out at the campground

I think my choice is a little bit overkill for what I need, but I tend to get BOMBed.

lschultz, would you rather I get a long skinny one?

Doc
