I need some clarification on Sat Radio display data.

I know the RB1 will display Artist and Title but what about the other head units?

I forget who it was but someone here on TDR is using a RAZ with an XM Direct product and gets Artist and Title.

I contacted XM about this product that is listed for the 03-05 Ram

and they said yes it will display that data same as the OEM Sirius tuner will, yet everyone says you can’t get that data without the RB1.

I have used a PnP for the past 3 years and want a cleaner install so have narrowed it down to a Sirius Starbase

#ad

that would have the controller mounted in the cubby or change service in the truck and use XM Direct I guess, and hope it will display Artist and Title on my RBQ 6 disc HU.

The one thing I don't like about that is its still an "add on" and only my volume control will function with the steering wheel controls so I have to reach over to channel change.

Can anyone clarify the Artist & Title issue for me? Seems odd I would have to change service to get that info on the Factory HU, then again maybe its just a RAZ that will do it.

Somehow I have my doubts about the Sirius Starbase working to get you Artist/Title on the RBQ. This setup will "look" like an FM station to your RBQ so you have to hope the FM modulator is going to convert the artist/title info into RDS format and include it in the FM signal. Maybe it will but I wouldn't bet any money on it. I'd try to find out for sure if my reason for doing this in the first place was to get Artist/Data on the RBQ.

On the other hand, you'd have that display included with the controller so if you could mount it somewhere nice, you'd have what you wanted but not on the RBQ.

This issue of no artist/title on the RBQ has prompted me to decide to just change out the entire factory system and be done with it. The other thing about the RBQ and Sirius is that you cannot jump by category. It can be a drag going from channel 9 to channel 175 when you have to do it one at a time. The presets help with that, though.

I have ther TERK XM Commander. It looks A LOT like the Sirius unit you posted. The XM Direct box and antenna are identical to my Terk setup. I've got the display mounted above the rear view mirror on a bracket I made in the shop. Here's a pic

I can see two of three parameters at one time on the display (It's a two line display). For example:

Top line: Channel Name
Bottom Line" Artist Name

Top Line: Artist Name
Bottom Line: Song Name

Top line: Channel Name
Bottom Line: Song Name

I've had it for a year, and have been very pleased. I like the subtle mount of the Commander, with gauges, I didn't want a big Plug N Play cluttering up more of the dash. Although now, I would like to have a unit that I could move from the truck to the office.

The Starbase controller displays that info.

True and another good point for a PnP.

With xm,and the raz, in the xm mode you can see artist or song tital or channel. You decide by selecting with the tune button. Channel up or down by presets or scan button, also volume on front of raz.

Also volume, channel up and down and 10 presets or other modes (CD, tape, etc. )on the steering wheel controls

Works great, sounds better than CD, and no extra junk on your dash Oo.

There sure are some differences in what XM Direct owners are getting and maybe it has to do with the different kits and or head units.

One fella I spoke with that has an RBQ 6 disc and XM Direct says the steering wheel preset button does not work and another fella with same HU and XM direct says his left button works.

There is this kit:

http://www.myradiostore.us/bundles/car/chrysler-dodge-jeep-xm-bundle.html

and then also this one-

http://www.myradiostore.us/xm-radio-receivers/xm-direct-chrysler-rvr-d-001-chy100.html

and who knows how that differs from even this one:

Seems a shame to have to switch services over to XM to get the Artist & Title info that should be there, who knows maybe I would like the programming better.

I know the Sirius “New Country” was my favorite till they turned it into talk country with all the interviews.

Matt the one I have is 2nd one you listed. Call wwwmyradiostore and they can tell you how it works with your set up. Mine looks and works like it came from the factory.

I had a commander installed in my brothers car for $50. The same guy installed this in my truck and it was so EZ he only charged $20. Everything just plugs in.

I will give them a call, this is bugging me with the different operations people see.

A friend of mine would like it on his 03 RBK but I don't see that head unit listed at Radiostore as being compatible. His does have a "mode" button.

Some more research turned up these 2 pics with different cabling yet listed for the same late model 03 & up Dodge/Chrysler products-

Well I called today on this one:

http://www.myradiostore.us/xm-radio...001-chy100.html

customer service was good, my tech question was answered kinda weird though... they said I could give it a try and that it may/may not work on my friends RBK but not to worry cuz they have a 30 day money back guarantee.

UPS ground is free and they didn't charge sales tax so I am going to give it a try.

I have had an xm radio in my truck for about a year and a half. It is great you can take it out for security and you can also listen to it in the house. I just bought the xm myfi 2go and it is awsome. It comes with the car kit and the home kit as well as working as a hand held. It has an fm transmitter built in. I figure if your gana buy one might as well get one you can use any time not just when in the truck. Just my 2 cents.

Thats cool too. . I have had a PnP for 3 years now and just want a cleaner install and am tired of carrying it all around.

I have a RAZ in my 2005 2500 SLT, and Sirius straight from Dodge and can't seem to get the artist and song title to display. Hints?

I believe that somebody with a RAZ said that you use the Tune button to change the display from the station name to artist/title. I tried that on RBQ and all that happened by pressing Tune was it tuned to the next station.

See post #5 above in this thread. That particular person has XM. But I think somebody with the factory Sirius and RAZ said the same thing because after reading it, I immediately went out in the driveway and tried it.

Do a search and you will find a lot of stuff on this subject. I spent the better part of a day one time reading everything when I was planning on getting an RB4 specifically for the display and the ability to see artist/title.

My RAZ equipped 2005 will not show artist or song title as far as I can determine. Tune only changes channel as does any other combo I try to push. The Dodge owner's manual does not address this either.

My understanding is that the Dodge OEM Sirius can be added to any of the factory stereos. See http://www.klenger.net/dodge/audio/index.htm for some more info. I cannot find any info on the RDS model.

Klenger, my radio looks like the one in the picture you have of the Infinity system. I looked on the window sticker, but I didn't find any numbers for the radio or option.

By the way, nice website! I'm going to try your connecter that you used to install your 5er light cord connestion.

Well. . I finally caved waiting for Sirius to come out with something for the DC radios and bought an XM Direct kit.

I did confirm this evening that on an RDS unit it works like this:

In XM mode- The Tune button will alternate between artist, song title, & station rather than changing the channel like when using FM.

Instead the Scan button tunes channels, up or down while in XM mode.

I still find it odd that the XM folks figured a way to do that while Sirius didn't think it was important.

I used the kit from myradiostore.com on my RBK stereo in my 05. It works fine, but I don't get any info on the screen, only the channel. Your stereo must have the RDS system to interpret the data for artist/title and channel name. The 6 disc RBQ has the RDS system.
