Just curious if others are starting to see lots of rust on their trucks also, or if it's just me, and would like to find out who has the best repair panels.

I have quite a few bubbles on the rear fender well lips, and both my rockers and cab corners are going to need to be replaced. I have a spot on the drivers rocker that I could push through if I wanted. Everything is rusting from the inside out.

There are a few other spots also, but nothing that needs immediate attention yet.

Sorry to hear that. Theres none on my 03 except for some of the under carriage and springs/suspension. But, then again, we don't use any salt on the roads here.

so far the only spots we have on the 06 are a few very small ones on the roof. nothing to cause concern yet. i am actually a little suprised since the truck originally came out of minnesota, and we live in midwestern illinois, plenty of time spent on salted roads is a good combo for rust. i do intend to line-x the rocker panels soon. should have done this to my 01, cause now the doors are rusting on the bottom.

I think it is all a conspiracy - the auto dealers subsidize some of the salt the cities use. I know here they salt if there is ANY white on the ground.

Last year I sprayed the whole underside of the truck with wool wax. This year I may do the same thing.

O, I also painted POR15 on everything I could underneath before I saw rust coming. I'm also in the process of herculining my rockers - I hope that will also help.

Treating the outside of the rockers won't really help, as I said mine are rusting from the inside out. Pull the plugs and have the insides treated and save yourself some headaches hopefully.

Rust?? Whats that? The 96 has never been in a garage and the only thing that has happened is the clear coat has dissolved (from the sunshine). Oh I know, Rust is that cool orangeish brown color they paint some trucks and cars with on the east coast... . Sorry, I could not help myself, please take no offence to it, I did spend 8 years in Taxachusetts and rusted out a couple of cars myself. Here in New Mexico we don't get much rain or snow (In town anyway) so rust isn't a problem.

pics before and after

from western NY, we eat salt for breakfast:mad:. my '04 was beginning to rust about a year ago, around the wheelwells, i could see bubbling at both rear wells. fronts were fine. this summer i went to a few body mechs and got some advice and opinions. the majority didn't want to touch it with a 10 foot pole, i was brushed off rather quickly. one of them recommended leaving it as is, but getting fender flares to cover it up. i looked into that and came up with the following remedy. . priced out OEM Power Wagon flares for about $340. had a friend who runs a shop do a quick fix on the one bad fender, scraped, sanded, and rubberized the inside, and then installed the 4 flares. 340 for the flares, and about 440 for body work, and the truck literally looks better today than it did in 2005 when i bought it. i couldn't be happier with the results. you absolutely cannot imagine the difference between having fender flares and not having them, the truck seems naked w/o them.

So far I have rust only on the undercarriage. And last weekend I noticed one of the body mount bosses under the cab has surface rust on it now, so that means my floor pans won't be far behind.

I like to think that at least part of the reason I've been lucky so far is I treated the inside of my doors way back in 2003. I used petroleum jelly back then to coat the seams and keep water out.

As the years have gone by I've put other things down inside the doors, including WD-40, silicone lubricant, and, most recently, LPS No. 3.

So far, so good. The last few years I've driven as little as possible in during the winter salt season. That probably helps too.

I will be putting on fender flares also, after fixing the rust I have.

I finally have another vehicle that I can use as a Daily Driver so my truck will be seeing very very little winter driving, only if necessary to tow something, or plow the driveway.

I'm hoping to have the rockers, front fenders, and rear wheel wells all repaired in the next few months. Eventually i want to strip the truck down to the frame and go through everything. I wish I could just buy a new truck instead but don't have the cash unfortunately.

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!

GASP!!!!!!!!!!

I guess dealing with all the Queers, and illegal's here aren't as bad as I thought!!!!!

Mac:cool:

the guy at the dealership parts counter (who has a 2005 2500) said that in early 03 apparently chrysler found a new vendor for the sheet metal, obviously because of a better price. . so there we have it. and we have wondered why they are rusting so fast. the stopped business with this vendor in about 2006.

My 2cents

I have and older mechanic who lives by me. He uses WD-40, 90w gear oil, and STP. H e mixes it 1/3 each with more WD-40. Brushes it in door seams, nuts and bots, fuel lines, frame nuts and bolts, ect. It collects dust dust in the summer, but washing is easier than rust repair. I use it in my daily driver and so far so good. My BABY sits in the winter LOL. I have not figured out what the STP does?
