Who's heard of the Edge turbo?

Thanks, TDR Staff

New 06 on its way(break in?)

The ad in the front cover of TDR #51 shows the Edge Jammer BB turbo. On page 94 there is a small article on it. Sounds like a great towing turbo, and will work for 370-550 hp. Edge hasn't updated their website so I can't find anything about it. I'd like to know more if anyone does, but we're probably all in the same boat.

I'm in the same boat, saw the same add you saw. I don't know anything about it, but it looks pretty flashy.

I called as soon as I got my new issue and the guy told me it is $2,000. Sorry, for that much I'll stick with my Super Phat Shaft 62... . I was kind of intrested in the Edge, but thet guy was pretty rude, so I'll just take my busniess else where...

Your SPS 62 is a better turbo anyway.

$2k for a single? That can't be rebuilt?

Anything can be rebuilt. I have a local turbo guy that has rebuilt turbos for me that the manufacture said couldn't be rebuilt. You just have to source your own parts or make them.

I don't know all that much about turbos, but I would think the smaller ones spool faster for towing. Say, a 62 vs. a 66. Big difference? What is the stocker? Would a bigger turbo really give a good benefit to my setup, along with say, a FASS fuel system? Our stock turbo does surge on lvl 5, and the boost tops out realllll quick, so I guess I can see where an extra 10-15 psi would help.

It would be so tough to make a choice on one, but it looks like they are in the same price range, just what you really want/need.

both the bb turbo and the sps are exellent turbos both spool fast and make power at lower egt's--thats what counts right? as far as whats better well i like the ball bearing design and i like the upgradability of the sps so they both win in my book! :-laf

Have you had enough questions about the CP3 yet? :-laf I dunno, I think a turbo is still a ways down the road, might need some new tires first. Then, when the turbo comes around, I'll need some more tires! I figure I could sell the bike and have plenty of money to make the truck scream, but I just can't do that.

SOOO much to learn about turbos. Oh boy

You can get them from Diesel Dynamics for, last I checked, about 1700 bucks

Actually, check the website... depending on the year, it's either a little less than that (2G trucks) or more than that (3G trucks).

That price is correct for the 3G trucks. Be aware though, that it comes as a complete bolt-on kit. Turbo, downpipe with clamp, gaskets, new IC hot side pipe, outlet elbow, bolts/studs, etc.

Actually, this one can be rebuilt. Not only that, it comes with a 1yr UNCONDITIONAL WARRANTY. You break it, you get another one. I don't believe any other turbo out there offers that. Oo.

I stand corrected. If it comes with all those goodies, then it's definitely worth the money. My SPS 66 only came with a gasket and a hoodie sweatshirt. I'm not complaining, I love my turbo, but this turbo sounds interesting.

Here's a pic of the complete kit:

How does this turbo compare to the 62's and 66's a lot of people run? I've read that it spools very fast, sounds like it would be great for towing. Would it be strong enough to hold up with the hot juice? Would there be a lot of room to upgrade with this turbo, or will I need to step up to get over 500 hp?

Thanks for answering any questions Klockliear

Wait a minute, it is an Edge turbo, I would think they would have tested it with the hot juice

the BB turbo from diesel dynamics is well worth the cost it is a true bolt on kit, includes every thing you will need, and i belive it is good for 500HP :-laf

It can make 500 HP, but it will be a very hot 500 HP.

Expect to see upwards of 1450F on the street with that kind of power.

DYNO EGT is useless!!

I hope they put a bigger shaft in it

Sence its made by turbonetics they can rebuild it

Can the BB turbo be used with a turbo mount brake ?

No, nor do we recommend a turbo mounted brake for high HP application.

Yes, well, actually, it's the proper version of the original prototypes we designed. Apparently, Turbonetics changed vendors for their shaft and turbine wheels in between the developement and first batch of production turbos. The spec for the inconel was out and caused the original problems. Unfortunately, we didn't discover this until a few turbos let go, then they did an analysis on those and 10 new ones from the shelf. Some turbos blew up, some didn't, but we replaced them all free of charge (as the warranty states). The current batch is back to the original spec of materials and has not had any problems.
