I am planning to go with the DenverOffRoad front bumper, eventually with 12K Warn winch. ame one Bill Swails has on his Earthroamer truck.

Same as Tom I have a DOR on order hopefully have it on beginning of June but I am still looking for the "right" rear bumper. Layne at DOR says he has a prototype rear that I will look at when I pick up the front. Have looked at the Reunel rear looks nice but I dunno yet.

I'll be looking for a replacement rear bumper soon. I was going to build one but decided to save the frustration and buy. Still not sure what brand yet.

Bumpers

I guess we are lucky here in Texas. You can go down to the local pickup outfitter and get 5-10 different kinds of bumpers and grill guards. I am not talking about the little chrome lightweight junk either. All these are built to shed a deer. I have been buying bumpers, grill guards, headache racks, and side steps directly from the manufacturer, saving quite a bit of money too. If any of you are interested in seeing what I can get, let me know. I have a digital camera, but I have not figured out how to post pictures yet. Let me know if you are interested.

Chace, yes, please let us all see what you can get. I have decided on the DOR because it is aluminum and therefore lighter than steel, and I figured with all the use and abuse the Earthroamer puts his through, it would darn sure be good enough for me :)

But, I am always open to new possibilities. I am looking for a winch bumper, both rear and front. I remember a few months back, someone on TDR posted a picture of a fairly normal looking rear bumper that had a Warn 9K winch mounted inside that was just beaiutifully hidden and didn't make the bumper look all that obnoxiously large (for a rear bumper).

Anyway, I for one would love to see what you can help us order.

Thanks,

Tom

Help me get the pictures up on the web.

I have the camera, know how to get the photos onto my computer, desktop or wherever, but do not know how to get them to the board. Let me know what to do and I will help all I can.

My suggestion would be to go to the "Reader's Rigs" section at the top of the TDR pages, then Create your own Gallery. You can upload several pictures that way, and then post a link here in this thread to the gallery you create. The Moderators may have a better suggestion...

I'd love to have one of the aluminum ones, either the Ute or DOR. But I just can't justify the $1500 +/-. It's a shame, too. From what I understand, if you need to replace the stock one, the $ you'd spend would put you about half way there.

Aluminum is for beer cans. Ha Ha.

I can understand why some folks want to keep weight down. But, I don;t think it really is not necessary to put a lightweight bumper on the front. About 50% of the pickups in this part of the world have a heavy duty grille guard or a full front end replacement. I have not heard of any front end problems caused by the excess weight. The vehicle manf. gives a gvwr front and rear. I am not one to follow manuf. "suggestions", but you can put a lot of weight up front without exceeding these #'s. I am going to work on getting the pictures up where you all can see them. I will start with my pickup, and you can let me know from there what you want to see.

Been there, done that

Hey all, I went with the DOR a couple of months back now. One thing to help justify the upgrade (if you're leaning that way) is to hang on to the stock bumper and sell it in the classified section. Suddenly your price can drop $200. Took a couple weeks and a trip to Denver (I offered doorstep delivery since it was close).

Just food for thought.

Sregorb-

Just a word from the past experienced...

When my 1997 rolled into a lake... (THE PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T WORK!! DON 'T TRUST IT!!!). My insurance said I could take off any accessory that the truck didn't need to run or make it legal. Hence, you need a front bumper to keep it legal so if someone broadsided you, the DOR would be fine, truck could be toast and you'd get a new truck maybe from the insurance settlement, but they wouldn't pay for another DOR. If you had the old bumper sitting around, you could go snap it back on and keep your DOR for your new ride.

I'm doing this with my Alcoa wheels. I know I could sell the old steel wheels for a fair amount of $$, but in case the truck gets ruined, then I'll just go pop the old steel wheels back on and keep my Alocas for the new ride.

This has been my experience so you might check with your insurance company before you sell the old one. But if you want to buy another DOR for me... I'll bring you a beer for your troubles!! :D :D

Mark,

Yea, thought long and hard about that too. And the bumper collected dust inthe garage for a month before a wise guy just pointed out that there are 3 or 4 junkyard within 5 to 10 minutes where I could get a bumper dirt cheap. This is a course to be followed IF and ONLY IF I did have the broadside problem, and totaled out, and insurance not willing to work with me. Then I can resort to replacing the aftermarket with a stock. In the meantime, I have a 6X3 area of the garage floor clear for use. :D  Which if you've seen my garage, I desperately need room in... . :(

ps. Thanks for looking out for me. :)

Hey Brian-

Where are these junkyards where you can get all these Dodge parts? I'd love to go junkyard hopping as I need some stuff and so do some of my friends.

Are they pick 'n' pay or do you have to tell them what you want?

Al vs Fe

I have installed a 385 lbs Reunel configured to accept a 115 lbs Warn M12000. Other than a 1-inch spring sag I cannot offer any criticisms to a HD steel bumper when compared to an aluminum equivalent. Reunels product is superbly constructed and finished, fit is top drawer, mounting counld not be more secure and attention to detail can be found where you would expect to see it. I noticed a decrease in mileage of approx. 1 MPG. Had I known of the DOR product line was available I may have opted for the lighter weight alternative. Both are equally expensive.

There is some real confidence inspired by a 500 lbs bumper/winch combo acting as the first line of defense in a front end collision. (Go steel!)
