I keep tearing up these 5 speeds. 3RD gear 3 times, clutch overdrive gear twice, and bearings i cant seem to keep them together. i have been running blumenthals transmissions and now i im fed up with dropping the trans all the time.

A automatic would be the way to go but to get one to hold up to the power of my truck and also convert mine would be about $10,000

I talked to Quad 4x4 today and they seem tohave what im looking for BUT... they are $3800. 00

So intern i am looking for some advice. quad 4x4,blumenthal,_____. Or should i just buy a 4500 from blumenthal like i have been for $1700. 00 and just stop driving like a cowboy on the road and save it for the pulls

Thanks,Michael

i just replaced my nv4500 from standard transmission and it is a pice of ______ fill in the blank i dont even have 3k miles on it and 3rd syncro is going out all ready if and when i get another one i would go to quad 4x4 just cause from what i read and heard they build them tough for our heavy right foot

If you've ever seen a 5600 sitting beside a 4500 you would see which is stronger. The 4500 looks like a toy next to a 5600. The only guys having problems with the 5600 is guys that don't change their gear oil. Sometimes the shifter will not go into any gear. But my bro has an 02' 6 speed and he changed to red line oil and has not had a problem for 40,000 miles. BTW he has 500 RWHP.

I see your point. In this case, larger is stronger. Besides, the 6 speed doesn't have a big 3-4 gear jump so it's better for pulling too.

I have to disagree about the 6 speed they are not necessarily stronger I know of several trucks that have had major issues with the main shaft when pulling. Also while 6 speeds are rated stronger from the factory they are about twice the price to fix if you break one, and harder to get right on a rebuild.

you might ask this question over in the competition forum as well.

thank you josh

Even though ive heard both opinionson the 2 trannys I beleived the 4500 was stronger also, Maybe i should just stop driving like a cowboy on the road and save it for the pulls

I rebuult my 4500 myself and put it threw holy hell havent had a problem since. got it out now to refresh clutch and it s fine with bout 20 hard hooks and alot of abuse. They both are strong boxes but id rather have a 4500, easier to get parts for and to put together, IMO, it will handle more.

get your NV 4500 from Dan at Quad 4X4. He'll give you all the advise you need on them. He even has some brand new NV 4500's.

I have a NV4500 with the Torque King main shaft in my truck now for a little over 4000 miles. Its a good transmission ... BUT ... my 5th gear always makes noise like a rollerbaring is rattleing. Dan said to check the oil and I did and it was OK ... might add an extra quart.

I think Dan's stuff is good, just if you need warranty work, you either have to drive to Montana or ship it to him at your cost.

i found a very reputalble shop in my area im gonna have rebuild mine. light truck and rv shop. ill use quads mainshaft but this way if theres any issue, they can pull the transmission and do the work. i would suggest finding a place thats close.

I had my transmission done by a local guy twice, both times got about 15k out of it

so I tried Blumenthals, I got 350 miles yeah 3 hundred 50 got another one coming, if that one goes I don't know what I'm going to do. hopefully not something stupid or illegal. Good luck
