Who's running 255 85 r/16 and how are they holding up.

I will be downsizing on my next set of tires from 315's so I can get a smaller foot print. Hopeing that will help the front end a little. How long is this size holding up on average. Any recommendations for brands in this size. I am looking for an aggressive tread design... ... . AT or MT. Whats out there? Thanks.

Welp I have after all theese years put on my LAST set of BFG Mud terrains. Granted I run 255's on the dualie (The Smallest Mud terrain I have run are theese) They are great ... Unstoppable in the goo , snow , etc.



However NOW they are getting what a hundered sixty a tire now! SorryBFG ... . Mud Kings here I come! 125 each same tyre mold, different name ... where do i sighn

Toyo M-55's seem to be good for 35-40K with heavy trailering.

I have a set of Coopers in M/S tread, they have almost 52,000 miles, and still have about 20% tread. They have been unbelievable. I will buy another set.

Chip, The Dunlops are another great alternative to the BFG. The ones below are 99. 00 each (E tire . com) and the bfg's go for $152. 00 each just a few spots down at (e tire . com)

I think the Mud Kings are made by cooper? Check you local retailer (As thats how I did) and the only way I could get him to check is I told him that I was giving up on BFG's and wanted the exact tire ... for less. Thats when he started researchin for me.

When buying from a place like E Tire, how much is shipping on average. Their prices are good but if you add another 30 per tire in shipping then I can get them locally at that price.

I've put that size tire on a couple of trucks. I have them in a Big O-Big Foot X/T. Very agressive tread,the most agressive that are not a straight mudder, and probably more so than some of those, and I got them studded for ice.

Sam's Club has has the Dunlop Radial Mud Rover LT255/85R16 for $106. 32. Isn't siped tho, so you'll have to add siping to the price or DIY. A DIY siping tool costs anywhere from ~$30 used to ~$60 new.

I am very tempted by the Dunlop's at Sam's club, but I'm a little concerned about lifespan. Has anyone ever run these on something as heavy as our trucks? Tirerack.com has lots of positive evaulations of this tire, but its mostly on lighter vehicles.

I have Dunlop Radial Mud Rover 285/75R16s on my truck and at about 4000 miles they are holding up great. I purchased mine at Sam's ( can't beat the mounting and road hazard ).

chip the mudkings are crap I am a dealer and you will not get your moneys worth. there were a few tires brought up that are also crap the superswamper will wear out in 25000 at best. the mud rover is ok at best for wear but traction is great. I am not a big fan of bfg because we make swat on them, but they are the best tire on the market for wear and traction IMP. The mud kings are yes made by the same company but not the same by any means.

I've been running 255 kelly's for a number of years now on my truck. Kelly MSR's are great in snow/rain, very agressive tread and not too noisy. I recently replaced them (back ones keep wearing out???) and am trying Kelly AWR's which are a little less agressive. BTW... I believe they're made by Goodyear.

ditto on kelly MSR's. I just put a set on (255/85/16). great traction and I like the size. no experience with dunlops but I had bfg's on another truck. They were very good tires as well.



vssman: how many miles were you getting out of your MSR's? was your right foot contributing to the premature wear?

I got about 30K on the rears. Yeah, the right foot definately wore them out much faster. As a matter of fact, I'm currently running the AWR's on the front and the MSR's that were on the front are now on the back. I'm guessing another 10k (if I never spin them) can be had out of them.
