No, not the turbo!

My truck whistles on the highway. It doesn't do it if the heat, a/c, or vent is on. It only does it when all of the ducts are closed. I think it's probably air whistling through a door or something. It's not a big deal. I just wonder if anyone else has noticed this.

Dave,
Had lots of compaints about this from my customers when I was still at the dealer. Normally coming from the tops of the rear doors or the mirrors. The quad is really a POS design, no way to stabilize the doors. Door adjustment may help some, make sure the rear doors are slightly underflush compared to the front doors. Most dealers will probably tell you this is normal which is partially true, but it can be minimized. The dealers don't spend the time to fix them because DC doesn't pay s**t in the labor time guides for finding the problem.
Good luck, hope this helps.

Dave-
My driver side mirror (towing mirrors) whistles while at highway speeds. Took me forever to figure out where the sob was coming from. It comes from air moving through the mirror where it pivots. Haven't come up with a fix yet, but I will. Don't know if this is your problem, but thought I'd throw it out for you to consider.

Thanks guys,

I don't think it's the mirrors for me. I originally had the power heated mirrors, and I just put on the tow mirrors a few weeks ago. The whistle seems to be the same with either set of mirrors, although I guess it could be a coincidence. I'm thinking it could have something to do with the doors. The tops of the doors stick up above the roof line a little. The noise really isn't bad at all. Besides, I usually have the vent or a/c, or - more commonly - the heat on. In those cases, there's no whistle (probably has something to do with air pressure equalizing with the ducts open?).

After 27 years of beating tin(autobody) I do not hear those sounds like I used to. Try door adjusting. Have someone ride with you to try and pinpoint the noise location. Antennas will whistle/howl as will brushguards. BTW,DC spot welds the front door boltt washers after they are mounted. Makes it a bear to try to align unless they are busted loose.

Dave,

Have you attempted to find a loose door gasket? Take a 1" wide piece of paper and
close the door on it in several places. You should not be able to pull the paper out of the seal if the gasket is tight. I've found several 'wind-whistles' over the years using this method. Even had to resort to duct tape one time to cover up suspect areas from the outside.

Another way to find door or window seal leaks is to tape over the exhaust vents at the lower rear of the door jams, turn the blower on high with all doors and windows closed. You can then listen or use soapy water to find the leak.

Dave,
Seeing that the noise goes away with the blower motor running your noise is cause by air intrusion. This is a repairable noise. The tip by illflem is a good one. The one thing I would add is if you have access to a smoke generator it is a big help, it will allow you to see the air movement past the seals. The leaks that whistle tend to be very small ones and are kind of hard to feel.
Good luck.

When mine was new, I had distinct wind noise from the driver’s door at the pillar.

Shortly after I installed my Vent Visors (Mopar), it went away. The only explanation I could come to is that the vent visors disturbed the airflow in this region. It is also possible that the door seal found it's "set".

Dave,
I am curious, do you have vent visors?
