I thinking it might be time to upgrade the transmission. I'm thinking about a valve body to clean up the shifts, and maybe a TC. what else could I do to prevent transmission failer especially with higher HP numbers?

very soon i shall upgrde. i will go tc,vb, and smart controller. considering billit input shaft. but wondering if i need servo and acumalator ??? need to address the thrust washer problem while using e-brake. and what other things does e-brake stress ?

i will be over 500rwhp while playing and i will tow at over 400

inarush76 has upgraded the 48re in his new truck with DTT stuff. Pretty nice stuff. Give him a PM if you want to know about it.

Please . . . feel free to discuss this in the forum. I for one would appreciate the education.

I've done the ATS torque converter and valve body. I like the way it shifts, quick and hard. O/D off the t. c locks up at 49 mph. I also have a Mag-hytec trans. pan, billet input shaft, and bigger clutch pack. Snapped stock input shaft at 5000 miles.

what are the bennifits of the smart contoller??? What is the thrust washer problem with e-brake??

at what HP rating should you consider doing the input shaft and clutch packs?? thanks for the info guys!

Blake Underwood,

Did you have any "collateral damage" when the input shaft broke? It sounds like that could have been very costly.

What do you think caused it to break?

Ken.

Blake Underwood, I would like to check out your truck sometime. When I get some cash I would love to do some things to the trans but I planned on making use of the factory warranty for the first 70,000. I think my money would be spent better with Exhaust and intake mods first.

The new input shaft and clutch packs was $600 total and a little less to install it. So it was about an $1100 mistake. The dealer installed it so I got a good deal on the labor. Note to self don't JUMP a 7000 lb. truck. ;)

smartcontrolr will keep tc locked when ya need it to use ebrke or to slow down with tc locked even w/ ebrk off. . i talked to bill today and he explained to me the thrustwasher prob will happen over time even w/o ebrake. a problem engineered into the 48re by dc so transmission will have to be tore apart shortly after warrranty is expired to give dc more of our dollars. :( nice of dc, eh. bill will post details of this on the dtt site shortly. luckily a good fix is in the works from dtt to address this prob.
