Why am I getting dirt on my turbine blaeds?

Ok Ok - I use a standard K&N, and also have the fine residue on my turbine blades. Sone folks talked about using grease to seal the filter and also some foam tape. How exactly dop you seal off the filter? Where is this material coming from on my blades? Please ni bashing - just the facts.

The dirt you see on your turbine blades may not be just a simple sealing problem with the K&N. As a lube engineer I look at hundreds of oil analysis results each week and more often than not see high oil analysis dirt levels with K&N or other non-paper air filter elements when used. You may need to switch back to paper if the sealing does not stop the dirt ingestion. Dirt ingestion is the #1 cause of engine and component life shortening. One teaspoon of dirt will destroy a large industrial engine in less than a week. Our comparatively little engines are much more susceptible to dirt/contaminant destruction...

Moreover, glad you caught this problembefore it led to engine damage...

Funny, I have an AFE cone filter and my blades are spotless. Spotless enough to use the turbo as a salad shooter if I wanted to... .

Do you have a K&N in your stock airbox? There has been a lot of problems with the K&N sealing right in the stock airbox. However, guys like me who have the cone w/ prefilter have seen no dirt on blades or high anaylsis in our oil.

I have a K&N and stock air box

I don't have any problems with the fit, some guys are using a little grease around the seal to stop what ever leaks they may have.

WHAT? I have never seen anything like this before! J/K!! Had to get one in, I haven't bashed amsoil or k&n in too long. :-laf

I just got rid of my K&N cone type with prefilter because I was getting grime on my turbo blades. I run the stock air filter for many miles without any grime then I run the K&N cone filter with prefilter and within 10,000 miles there was dark grime all over the turbo blades. Some say it is due to over oiling but how does one know if it is over oiled or under oiled, which would be just as bad if not worse. I chose to use the stock filter and I don't have to worrry about anymore.
