Question About Window XP

TDR #38 observations...

For the geekers

I've downloaded and burned several copies of the RedHat installation CD images and none of them boot or can be seen when I boot the installer from floppy, but Windows Explorer will show the disk titles.

I've been downloading them in bianary mode and burning them with either Easy CD Creator or Nero in iso-1 mode.

Maybe I should quit being so darn cheap and buy the set :)

My A+ software class instrutor says she went to a software conferance and nobody talked about Novell. All the talk was about Microsoft 2000/XP and Linux. The school will be offering Linux classes next summer, so I guess I need to think about taking that, seeing as workers comp is paying :D Maybe I can get workers comp to shell out for RedHat so I can get started on my self taught program :)

Doc, check the file sizes VERY carefully. I've downloaded 3 ISO's in a row and burned them, only to find that they were off a few bytes. Seems the download into Windows would abort near the end and cut off some of the ISO image.

I don't know of any way of fixing that, other than to use FTP instead of http to download it, I'd suggest you get an ftp program, download the ISO again via FTP, and then compare file sizes with the source for the download. Make sure both are specified in KiloBytes and then compare.

Thanks guys. My problem is solved.

PowerWagon, I tried downloading using FTP Explorer in bianary mode, but that didn't do it. I didn't check to see if the entire file downloaded though.

The school district where I work has a RedHat system running as a proxy server. We plan to install proxy servers in all nine school buildings, running Dan's Guardian (a site filtering program) and Squid (a proxy caching program) on them. I told the boss I needed to install RedHat on my home computer to learn more about it, and he agreed. He tossed me the district credit card and told me to go buy what I needed :)

Well. . here goes. RedHat 8 pro version was delivered today and I'm ready to reboot and install it on hdb. Wish me luck and if you don't see me for a month, you'll know that my system crashed :D
