I have an '06 which has been something of a disappointment, I will not get into it but its had its fair share of problems especially with the front end. normally every 4 years I buy a new truck. so I looked at the '10 models they look nice and all, but there are no incentives out right now at all, plus the cost of the trucks even with incentives being the same as what I got for my 06 model, the '10 trucks are over 6 grand more. without any incentives that is 11 grand more than I paid for my 06 4 years ago, a whopping 33% more. I am sorry 44 grand for a new truck with similar equipment to what I already have is just a no go. add to that all the complications with the emissions issues on the new engines and you have to figure at least a futher 10% reduction in fuel economy with the 6. 7 vs my 5. 9 that is a further kick in the balls.

from what I understand the ball joints are the same, so for me that would be a $1k repair bill by the time I hit 50 k miles. I see no reason, absolutely none to go buy a new truck. maybe that is why I have only seen a couple new models driving around.

First if you buy new truck you could get the new truck smell. Just kidding there are deals out there and if you are willing to shop around most likely you could purchase a new one at about 85 precent of MSRP.

I stumble across my truck someone order it and backed out of the deal after it came in.

Will you get better MPG most likely not, does it handle better yes, does it ride better yes. increase payload yes. Warranty yes.

Increase cost between yours and new one yes.

Take one out for a spin and than figure out if you want to go back into debt for another truck.

We tried to justify a new truck in 07. It did not work but we bought one anyway. The troubles I had with the 96 Dodge (my first new vehicle, after 30 years of buying and fixing 15 year old POS's) would make you cry and call Dodge every 4 letter word in the book. That being said, for us any way, the smell of a new truck, the new options the we wanted rather than needed, the new 'Sparkley' in the driveway sure made us want one. Yes, the price is high, (so is everything else) but after the test drive the wife stated 'why didn't we get one like this in 96?'. Still can't justify a 40+ grand pick up but man are they cool! We haven't regreted it and we are looking forward to a whole lot of great miles ahead of us. Mine has really been trouble free, 45K and the tail pipe is still as clean as it was at 18 miles.

It's hard for me to consider a new truck based in the current economy. I would need big time $$ incentives. I doubt it will be a good year for Dodge in this economy. A replacement for what I have now is running in the low 50k's over the big three.

I bought my CRD Liberty used, 2 years old. I have been as happy with it as I have with my two trucks, which I bought new. Nothing wrong with buying used, especially if you can get a least return. Those have been maintained and taken care of because they know it will have to be in good shape at the end of the lease. By the time a truck is two years old, all the "bugs" have been pretty well worked out of it, if it had any.

why buy a new truck?

Because you can, want to, and can afford to pay cash.

Other then that I would not, 35 year old here with lessons learned on having car payments and life.

Ammo and guns. . YES! ... Gold? I dont think so... :-laf
So much for this thread huh? ;)

Seriously though Cummins Cowboy; IF you can afford it then by all means... but if that 06 is running good now that you got the bugs filtered out and fixed... . why change? Your reasons for hesitating sound valid to me indeed! Going back into debt is NOT a good thing at the present economic time and with the joke we have as a president ... who knows what is going to happen next? I think one of the big reasons why we are not seeing that many 10's on the road is that people are stopping and thinking now before they sign up for that kind of debt load.

Well said! I agree with all those statements!

I don't know where all the 2010's are, but they're sure not at the local dealer in Chambersburg. They had two, and they didn't hang around long.

Last week I bought a 3500 Big Horn crew duley 4x4 from Chris Nikel in OK.

I live in San Diego and could not find a truck that I liked for nothing.

I saw this dealership on the net and gave them a call. I told them what I wanted and Patrick Duggins started looking. I thought for sure, he, like the salesman at other dealers would just stop calling me when they could not find the truck that I wanted at the price I was willing to pay.

It took him a month to find a truck that I liked.

He never gave up on me.

I got the truck for very close to invoice which is not bad since there is very few incentives right now.

Here is his email -- email address removed --

Tell him you want the same deal that Steve from California got.

I've seen 4 on the road in the last two weeks here in Cen Ca. All out of Ca state plates. One was a Hot Shot.
