Instead of buying a new truck? You can tow a 5th wheel with ammo and gold???

Nope. But you can with an older truck that's paid for and has lot's of ammo, guns and gold stocked in the tool box ;)

If I'm reading you correctly, you think that the OP should keep his 06 and keep pouring money into it for constant repairs and with the money he saves buy ammo, guns and gold stock. I don't believe he'll have money left over to buy ammo, guns and gold stock after all the repairs. Could be he doesn't even like ammo, guns and gold stock, maybe he want a new truck.

Going by his TDR Handle and his choice of trucks, I'd bet this fella does like apple pie, baseball and mom.

Why buy a new truck? Because you want/need a new truck. And if everyone stopped buying new Rams, the line would go under. Then in a few years when you finally decide you want/need a new one, there would only be two choices left. That would be a sad day indeed.

You mean like a Furd and a Chevy? I'm still hoping Toyota comes to the plate with a heavy duty, long bed, one ton diesel.

If that every did come about that dodge would no longer be an option than most likely one of the other majors would wake up and sign on for the cummins engine. Most of us are buying Dodge for the engine not the truck that is wrap around it.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. The window has closed for others to enter the HD market. Every time Toyota claimed they were going to enter the full sized market, they fell short. First was the T100, we know how that turned out. The Tundra was a nice mid-sized pickup, and the latest effort is still not a real HD with 8 bolt wheels and floater axles. Now that the economy has collapsed (with no end in sight), and with the big three having this market saturated, you can forget about Toyota or Nissan in the HD market. If they really wanted to innovate, they could launch a small diesel like to soon to be available Mahindra.

Not all of us, I purchased my Dodge for the truck, but I also love the Cummins.

Best of both worlds.

I think that statement was more true prior to this year. I can only speak for myself, but I think others would agree. I bought my last truck more because of the Cummins than the Dodge, but the engine alone would not have been enough of a factor if the Dodge truck around it was horrible. I bought my new truck because of the engine and the truck. The engine is still great, the truck around it has come a long way, which takes us back to why people buy new trucks. I'm sure the truck might not seem all that improved to some people with trucks built within the last couple years, but it is vastly improved compared to my 2005.

It has taken 3 years to get my 07. 5 the way I want it. The mileage is now real good and it only has 38k on it. I would be a nut to trade now. :-laf

Why Buy A New Truck

I presently have an 08 and will no doubt look at trading next year. I went from an 05 to an 08 for a little over $4,000. 00 per year. If you project this out over 10 years when my truck would be worth $0 I find it to be a good deal. I sold my last one outright with hitch, tank and all to an individual who was looking for a 3500 ready to tow. I would hope to do the same this time if I can. It made a good deal for the used one and a good deal for me when I ordered my new one. I have had little or no problems with my last 4 Ram Diesels and find them outstanding for towing. My miles are highway and usually interstate so they add up without much ware.

Does anyone have any insight into what the 2011 will bring?

I purchased my 06 purely on the fact that I heard the 5. 9l was being replaced by the 6. 7 regen engine. It was my last chance to get another 5. 9l.

With that being said, IF it were possible to get a NON-regen engine in the new 2010 body... I'd be standing in line right now. Problem is, thats never going to happen... So, the alternative is to upgrade the front suspension, install a FASS system for better fuel filtration so my little 5. 9 lives a long healthy life, and make an honest attempt at tastefully upgrading the interior... .

I have looked at the new 2010..... it definitely gets points for the styling and interior, but like others, the front end components scare me as much if not more that the regen system and the dreaded CEL!!!!!...

CumminZ

Those rear flaps look a lot like a Freightliner flap to me, trim around the edges is a nice touch.

Figured you would have a Cummins set on there. :-laf
