It's like any other 'new' technology.

When a 'new' technology comes out - there are folks out there that will buy it even if they have to sell a kidney on the black market. Japan is a prime example of a society that is like this. They go crazy over new technology... .

Once the craze is over - the product is then mass produced by several manufacturers and the price drops significantly.

Remember when laser pointers were $200? Now you can buy more powerful laser pointers at convenience stores for $5.

PIAA makes some good lights, but for $3k - they had better last forever and have a darn good warranty.

Look at what Hella has to offer - I have friends that have had good luck with their rally lights.

I've got a set of HELLA 500 driving lamps with the upgrade 100 watt bulbs. First impression was HOLLY S**T these things are bright. They shine three times farther than the stosk lights. I hooked them to the high beams only. You cam get them at www.4x4connection.com

GREAT value!!!!!Oo.

people will see you and want to kill you... which may be unsafe...

when in the course of human evolution did we become unable to drive at night without blinding oncoming traffic?

I'm sure driving with HID's is nice and all, but so it driving with your brights on... it's just not nice to the other guy!

the bulbs cost more, but that's not the only issue. HIDs require ballasts and H. V. transformers, which add to the cost. And, since a vehicle is a DC system, you need to add inverters to the list.

You are not supposed to look at their lights. The may look cool but resist the urge to stare. Look at the white line just as they taught you in driving school. You are the "#@$%!" for blinding him, but I'm sure he knew to look to the right at the line.

Had them in the wifes acura, and they are the bomb. they are high on my list of things to do to the truck. Besides its all about me anyway scr#w the other guy:p :p there i said it:D

at least you had the sack to admit it... that's what those lights are all about... they're just as bright as my brights!!! maybe I'll just start driving around w/ my brights on, and if anyone brights me, they'll get the Hellas!

nah, I'll keep on doing what's "right" instead. :(

The lamps for HID are expensive. I work on lasers that have the same type of arc lamps (DC powered). I get over $1100 for my largest lamp (medical lasers). These lamps are water cooled and capable of over 4500 watts of energy!

I seem to have read that fitting HID to conventional lamp housings is or will be illegal because of incompatability somehow.

I would be interested in the conversion myself, if the law allows and the prices gets real!
