Why do I seem to have so much slack in the steering

The coupler between the steering shaft and the steering box is a weak link. It will innevitably become sloppy, loose it's lubrication and deteriorate.

Before joining TDR, I spent some money on trying to repair the wandering problem with my 93 TWD. Totally wasted until I found the info on the Borgeson 'retro.

I have talked with owners who traded off their truck because they couldn't "fix the front end". Others told of spending big bucks and still having the problem.

The Borgeson steering shaft is one of a couple aftermarket fixes that works like a charm and has an excellent warranty.

One of the main causes of steering play is the steering coupler. It is located just before the steering gear box and joins the gearbox stub shaft and steering shaft itself.

This couple will loose its lubrication over time. Eventually the coupler is contaminated with water and road grit which leads to eventual failure.

You can buy a "stock" replacement, which, has a reputation for lasting about a year, or, you can use an aftermarket solution. One such option that is frequently used is the Borgeson steering coupler, and usually includes the coupler and it's shaft-to-rag joint section.

It is a little pricey but brakes and steering rate high on my safety list and no place to scrimp.



I was able to get just the coupler from borgeson back in 97 and it is tight like new 75k miles later
