2004. 5 3,73 4x4 auto crew w/18-037-04, 20. 8 miles per gallon 147 mile trip flatland , no headwind. 60mph max, use cruise, hand calc. This is not normal driving style, but shows what is possible.
Beginning with the 04. 5 "600" mdl they now meet the Federal emission standards which means the catalytic converter and probably a few other things that eat into our mileage a little. Any comments on what CTD did to meet those standards??
Catalytic Converter- Prob much better at cleaning up than the one the 12v's used
Dual squirt injection process below 65 mph(?)---Allows it to quiet the engine and burn more fuel- however, waste of fuel
Triple injection above 65mph(?)---same as above but wastes even more fuel
I think but cannot say for sure that the 04. 5 do not have a downdraft tube. Meaning closed crankcase. Closed crankcase increase pressure putting more wear and tear on the engine.
I'm sure that the common rail injection is more of a precision process also.
2008- serin canisters and water cooled EGR???? HAHA the 2008 engine is going to be sooooo worthless. Think this emission stuff is bad right now, just wait till 2008!
