Tire Wear

Speedometers are set for factory tires and NEW TIRES - as I've been told. Correct me if wrong. My point is that many of the tires we use have 18-19 - 32's of tread depth. As this tread wears, your speedo will change - to the point that if you wear tires all way down to wear/bars, you'll be off quit a bit.

tighten everything

Don't forget to tighten everything in sight. If you don't already have the service manual then get one, torque everything to spec. Many have described finding intake manifold bolts loose, turbo boot, etc. etc. loose and these things will adversely affect your mileage.

Also do a search on the IAT issue and see what a difference a dirty IAT sensor can make, a clean/new one could make a big diff to your mileage. Also try dodgeram.org (Fritz's page) and look for Marco's IAT dissertation. Good luck... .

He changed his

KMeek,

If you change to 245's your speedo will be off. Depends on how your truck was originally fitted.

RR went from 245's OEM to 265's, therefore without speedo correction, his will be off 3-4 miles per hundred.

AND on airflow. I'm getting my 20+ MPG at 75+mph with a big wrap-around brushguard on the front--but I do keep it waxed.

OH and I don't have cab lights-they'll probably set you back . 001MPG easy.

I like the tighten everything up idea. Too many folks with similar trucks are getting far better mileage. I'd worry all night.

I averager anywhere from 18. 8 at 75+ with the Comp set on 3x4 to 24 at a consertive 60 mph. Moving away from a stop light I will go light on the throttle and just let the natural torque take me up without exceeding 1700 rpm. ;) Check your driving habits, are you doing the jack-rabbit start at the light or taking your time. Hard acceleration to beat the guy while comming onto the free way or easy go and match for the available hole in traffic. Regular use of fuel conditioner for the pump and injectors or just when the urge strikes. Worst mileage I have ever gotten was 17. 9 and that was towing 9,000 lbs from Portland to Provo for 845 miles. Driving tecnique is the key for me. I did my last trip over to McCall, Idaho and back for a total of 910 miles at speeds anywhere from 65 up to 104. Most of the time I was in the 75 to 85 range. Comp was set on 3x4 and the mileage was a rock steady 18. 8. I have a log of every mile and every gallon used since new. Don't know what to tell you other than review how your are putting the foot to peddal. :(

everyone here has given me alot of great information. And i thank you all. I just think there is some type of electro-mechanical difference between our tucks, and i would just LUV to nail it down. Of course driving habits, auto/5spd and alot of other stuff changes things. But same year, same truck configuration. I might even buy another truck and start swapping parts till i nail it. Enough allready. Yep, i should have bought a 5 speed. Try to find a nice used one on the lot. I looked at 10 in 2 weeks and all were autos... . HHHmmmmm RRR
