I know you're not ready for this, but
1) cockroaches are ecologically very important and
2) we have only ourselves to blame.
Cockroaches are recyclers. They're very good at cleaning things up they eat just about anything they can get in mouths. In the wild, they scavenge, gobbling down dead plants, dead animals, animal wastes, chowing down and pooping them out so other organisms can use the nutrients.
According to fossils cockroaches were much more prevalent back in the dinosaur days when things were hot and humid, lots of rotting stuff around. The place was swarming with them.
Humans have re-created just about the perfect cockroach habitat. They keep their houses warm all year round. Except for in tropical areas you won't find many cockroaches living outside, they like to hang with humans. There are plenty of places to hide, under the stove, in your boots, in the cereal box.
And face it humans are basically slobs. They leave good stuff to eat lying all over the place. What more could a cockroach ask for?
