Rear Main Oil Leak?

In my opinion, the original purpose of synthetic oil was improved flow at cold temperatures (guess which market Mobil 1 was first introduced... New England). Anyone who has ever changed dino oil when it's less than 30 outside knows exactly what I mean. I use it in my gassers because the cost is not as prohibitive. For advice on my CTD, I called the local Cummins shop... they said 15w40 dino is fine for this area, so that's what I'm sticking with. If I moved to Alaska I'd probably pony up for synthetic. I have never used anything more than a 3000 mile change interval on my engines, regardless of oil makeup or viscosity range. :)

Your thowing away good oil at 3,000 miles... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . even Dodge says you can now go 7,500 on the new Dodges. All of the engine oils of today are much better than they were even ten years ago. The only ones that are promoting 3,000 mile drains are the oil Companies and the qickie lubes... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... Why? More money to be made! :-laf

Wayne, my choice in 3000 mile intervals defies logic, but I do it because it helps me to sleep at night. ;)

I also weighed the cost/benefit of going synthetic. I probably wouldn't run syn, but I drive in Phoenix AZ (extreme summer heat). So the logic that convinced me was my turbo and the heat it has to endure. I feel the syn oil will lubricate my turbo much better and insure heat dissapation when I can't idle before shut downs. If I didn't have a turbo and a HO that runs hotter than the 2nd gens, I probably would run dino and analyze it to get as much milage as possible out of each change.

I have almost 10k on my syn oil right now and I just received my oil analysis today with a recommendation that my oil is suitable for continued use.

Wayne, I think I remember your saying the bypass filter cost $150 or so. Who makes, sells and installs it? I'm too busy to do it myself.
