how to tell which turbo?

This is the first time I have owned any Dodge product. Where

I live and work everyone makes fun and kidds me about my new

and my old truck. I don't see where they are coming from with this anti-Dodge attitude. I just would like to know if others have

experienced the same ribbing as I have. I love my trucks!:D

Its a dodge thing, they just don't understand!!

You might find like I have, that most Ford guys won't kid you as much. It's those chevy guys that think the General never does any wrong. I love having a bunch of chevy guys tell me to take my dodges home, then have them admit later that my old dodges run good, after I pull them out of the mud or pull further down the track.

There will always be some MORONS that say "That dodge would run better if you put a 350 in it". Sheesh!! Some people are so square minded.

Just shrug your shoulders, keep your mouth shut, and let em see your dodges in action. Be a real dodge owner and don't stoop to their levels!!

Michael

Mopar Man since I was a boy.

I just listen to what they have to say about whatever they have. I let actions speak louder than words. Granted..... I've been known to get in a brand argument or 2... ...

Josh

This weekend was a great example... . Sat night a friend was giving me greef about my dodge. Sunday he calls me up cause he broke his Chev in the mud pit behind the house. Guess who pulled him out... . then proceeded to go right through where his 81 chev, 4inch suspension lift and 35in tire truck broke!

If they are a little older fellas then it's probly still the belief from the 70's and 80's that dodge sucks. Dodge didnt change pickup style for 20 years that's hard to let go.

As for the other's they have to try to knock down the guy on top!

Good way of putting it, Deezul1. I would add that personally, I'd rather not drive something that every nut-job on the road has. It seems like people buy Ford and Chevy just because that's what most other people buy. I'd rather have something a little more rare. :)

Back in the 60's & 70's Dodges were truck-trucks or working trucks. No frill, heavy duty trucks. Ford and Chevy were heading towards where they are today- comfortable, personal vehicles that were also trucks. Also, going way back-Dodge had a reputation for tough engines but rust bucket bodies.

Dodge has caught up to the others in all catagories while maintaining their well deserved renown for the best engines... . but reputations die hard.

Most who look down on Dodges have not driven one in a long time!

I think you are right, the very early Dodges were know as a farmers truck. I don't mean that to sound mean, but they were no creature comforts, bare bones trucks. The kind that start every day, take the abuse, and go on about there business. The insides were black rubber mat flooring and a huge vinyl bench seat. And yes they did stay that way for years and years. I can remember when Dodge first came out with the diesel (Cummins),Dodges were very few and far between were I lived, you would only see one now and again. There was this old guy that came in to a oil change place I just happened to be at,to get a "Company truck serviced". I remember at first thinking, why did this guy buy this new dodge? The design was very dated and almost ugly. I started talking to him, and I could sense the excitement in his voice. I clearly remember not liking the funny fender flairs they had installed to cover the dual rear wheels, and was thinking it looked hooky. But at the same time there was an attraction to it, the diesel intrigued me, It sounded like nothing I had heard before in a small truck. The old fellow let me look all over it, he pointed out various parts and told me this was a "real" diesel engine. At the time, GM wasn't impressing anyone with their efforts, and Ford was the only other diesel choice. There was something about this diesel I liked, I can still remember that loud noisy thing idling in the bay of the service area. This guy was very excited and I now know why, he had been in on the RE-BIRTH of the Dodge truck, and new what might become of it. I am very thankful to that old guy, he was my first experience with the "new Dodge" and it's great new power-plant the Cummins. I remember from that day on, seeing more and more dodges on the road. They were also in the many magazine articles now, and I think I even seen a few advertisements for dodge? I think now, looking back that kind old fellow with his dodge, planted a seed that now has me showing the same pride, intrigue, passion for the Dodge and Cummins partnership. Maybe I'll get that same chance to pass it along to another youth, I sure hope so.

Man, those guys that rib you, and me, just don't know what they are missing out on. My uncle was a chevy man through and through, but then I got to spend some time wearing him down into just test driving a Dodge, and, what does he own now? A 2002 Dodge 2500 ctd! This was before I got my diesel, I knew I wanted one, but after just riding in his, I knew that I had to have one.

My family and I have been MOPAR fans since I was born. In fact, I was driven to the hospital in a '76 Chrysler New Yorker with a 440 Big Block. I mean, think about 1978, who mad the fastest production vehicle? Dodge Lil' Red Express Truck, which my dad happens to own, since new.

All my off road buddies give me he!! about my '83 Ramcharger with 35's, but who do they call when they're stuck, another chevy or ford, NO, the call ME, cause nobody else can get them out.

They whole thing about Dodge is that everyone calls them Brand X because they aren't as popular, so the aftermarket doesn't make as much for them, and the average consumer wants what everyone else has, just like a couple of the other folks said on here.

Me, I'll stay Mopar, and just dish out what I can, and take what they give me.

Mopar, or no car! James

Any of my previous vehicles I have owned, the Dodge has me excited to drive it, even after almost 2yrs. I can't say that about ANY of the others. With exception to the oil/fuel filter changes, this truck has been much easier to work on for me also. Have spent much less in repairs than the others (excluding the old Mazda B2000). I like the layout of the cab much better too. And to top it off, the Cummins. Absolutly NO complaints about it.

The steering and trany leave a little to be desired, but overall, very, very happy with my truck. :D

I guess I'll throw my two cents. This is my first dodge cummins. My previous trucks were 95 and 99 powerstrokes and a 454 ton Chevy dually. I am convinced now that I own the best diesel powered truck out and love driving it every chance I can. I bought mine with friends and family discount and was aggrevated I didn't by a 6. 0 or a D-Max. I drove em all this one was the best. Screw the rest! :D

Reminds me of a day when myself and a friend were walking into a parts store several years ago. There was an OLD DOdge sitting in front of the store with the engine running with no one in it. I told my friend somebody may get their truck stolen if they aren't more careful. My friend looked at me and said, "Who would want to go to jail for stealing an old Dodge. " It was funny at the time.

My father-in-law was a logger in the '50s. He always drove a Dodge pickup. His reasoning was that if you could get it started in the morning it would get you home again. It would never make you walk. He did say that sometimes they would get so bad you would rather walk. I can remember riding to the store with him in his '52. It smoked so bad it was like riding in a gas chamber. I started to roll window down hand he said that was not a good idea. That would cause a draft and the smoke would be worse.

I dodge dogs too.

I, like many folks on this board, said "I bought the Cummins and a Dodge came wrapped around it" or some such variation on the theme.

I was a bit leary of the Mopar part of the system, as I had no direct experience. Most of my driving years have been spent in Ford trucks and German cars.

Now, with almost 50,000 miles and nearly 1. 5 years behind the wheel of my own Dodge, I can say -right out loud and in front of people- that DODGE AIN'T THAT BAD. Certainly no worse than Ford and not nearly as screwed up as GM.

If I could take the best parts of Dodge and the best of Ford... . no wait, that's AMC!!! :-laf (but don't laugh I've got one:rolleyes: )

The one thing that really irks me about DC is the LONG delay in allowing parts to the aftermarket.

Right now (I checked yesterday) I can't buy a ball joint or front hub for my truck from anyone but DC. The hub/bearing assembly is 250. The ENTIRE control arm has to be purchased to get a ball joint.

BUT I'm no longer worried about folks calling my truck a Dodge. Dodge deserves a little credit for bringing Cummins to the market and putting a truck under it that'll almost contain it. I just wish they'd stayed with G2 a little while longer. I'm way more prouder of the noise maker under the hood, but I'm liking the Dodge part more every day.

Long live the G2's!!! (I'm starting a collection)

My 2003 Quad-Cab CTD is my first Dodge/MOPAR vehicle. I WAS a Ford "person" and a Bronco driver. Not any more! I love this Dodge and the Cummins! It's the best vehicle I have ever owned! I was familiar with Dodge/MOPAR as my Dad was a dedicated Chrysler - Dodge owner until the late 60's when they began to get cheap. He went to Ford until he passed on in the late 70's. In 1979 I ordered/owned a Pontiac Wagon and both my wife and I swear we will never buy a GM again! The one we owned was just junk!

This year, when I was finally able to replace my old Bronco I initially gravitated to a F250 Diesel. (diesel = I wanted to "really" be able to tow our TT) Due to the high cost of any new truck I knew I should look at all possibilities (except GM!) THE MORE I LEARNED ABOUT THE DODGE/CUMMINS THE BETTER IT STOOD ABOVE THE COMPETITION! Test drives proved that the facts and figures were all true!

Today, at almost 5000 miles and 6 months, I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! It tows my 24 foot TT like a dream. Ergonomically, the cabin fit is great, like they designed it to fit me! (ie. the shifter and center console are perfect. ) Some of the "goodies" I ordered which I thought were "over the top" are actually very functional such as Heated Seats which warm you up while that big Cummins block is slowly getting warmed up. (It's my thought that these engines last so long because they don't seem to run excessively hot, or the cooling system is very efficient. With the hood open my old gas Bronco has gobs of heat rolling out of the engine compartment; the Cummins seems so much cooler when warmed up)

So, in the end, Dad had it right! Dodge is a winner. They have created a real winning combo. when they teamed up with Cummins. The 2003 body is well designed! It may not be a "sexy V8" but like "beauty that's only skin deep" it's the "insides" that a guy has to really live with!

My "Big Green" 03 CTD is a real keeper and the best decision I could have made for a diesel truck! IMHO.

Like wise, I wouldn't want any other truck, I am SO happy with mine. I usually get positive comments from others, a few stares maybe from Powerstroke owners, but thats about it. I think they see my exhaust, the pillar gauges and suspect it ain't stock and dont want to be embarrassed!

I was a die hard Chevrolet man, drove them almost exclusively for many years. In 1989 I was driving through the Dodge dealer's lot and noticed a new truck with the Cummins logo. I had some big truck experience and loved the sound and torque. In spite of the ugly wrapper, I wanted one. When they brought out the cool new body in 94, I told myself I was going to own one someday. I was freshly divorced and into a financial slump. The new Dodge had to wait. I started looking for a used quad cab two years ago and just could not find one. I wanted a four wheel drive and that did not make the search any easier. The resale on these things is outrageous! I thought I could get a big break for a 100k hit on mileage, wrong! So, I went to the friendliest Dodge dealer I could find, Abilene Kansas, and bought one. I was going to order one, but he had just what I wanted in stock with the exception of an open rear axle, I would have preferred a locker. I decided I could do that, install a locker that is. Since then I bought an old military Chevrolet, 6. 2 4X4 to beat the brush and mud with. I love this Dodge. I opened up a big grin when I rotated the tires for the first time. This whole truck looks like it was built to last. I like the diesel clatter the earlier trucks had, but I did not get there soon enough. This one will just have to do. We are close to 25K now and rolling strong. I knew I bought the right truck when I pulled two F-250 Fords to the Auction in Topeka and got 15 MPG doing it, we could not have driven either one of them for 15 MPG, plus we had a great ride home when they sold. With the exception of a little more turbo whistle and a loss of about 4 MPG, I am not sure the Cummins knew they were back there. Glen

I think you can get a bad one of anything. This is my first vehicle I have ever owned other than a Chevy. But anyways, yea, you can get a bad one of anything, weather it wears a bowtie, or is green and yellow or red. But, I have heard that you should stay away from those things with an oval blue thing on the front of them!!!!!!
