how to tell which turbo?

I take some flak from some of my buddies except the ford fan who got stuck twice and I pulled him out both times-he now has some respect for Dodge. I still don't know any chevy fans that will show any respect for Dodge but thats fine I don't say a word we just go out and I show them what my Dodge will do compared to their chevy.

This is my second Dodge (first was a 98 Dakota 4x4 318) and both have taken a lot of abuse and neither has let me down.

I will always drive a Dodge let everyone else say what they will.

Mopar or no car!!

I started off with Chevy- a '47 1 1/2 ton flatbed to be specific. Went through ( read used up) that truck, a '57 2 ton chevy, a 54 IHC pickup (when they had real bodies),then bought a (used)(102k) '73 chevy 1 ton crew cab dually 454/auto. That truck lasted me for 16 years, 3 engines and about a dozen trannys. When the frame finally was so loose that nothing would keep it tracking straight, I looked at everyone current product (96). All had some good features, all had drawbacks. I bought a 3500 v-10 dually (couldn't affoud/justify the CTD at the time). Served us very well with 4 recalls (all minor) and no repairs other than front axle u-joints ( brakes [54k] and services are normal maintenance). What caused the change to our current '03 CTD was changing from a 22' TT to a 40' 5th. The '96 pilled it like a champ, stable and dependable, but it had a severe (to us) drinking problem- ~7. 125 mpg with the trailer. This time around the "other guys" didn't even see my shadow on their doorstep. Even granting I grew up with AMC (and still own several) Dodge has proven themselves in Quality, the CTD still blows me away in power and quietness, and my local dealer works hard to keep our experiences with them and DC positive. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones, but NOTHING can be all bad. -Eric:)

129,300 ,miles and 1 lift pump and 1 track bar. Still running the stock auto transmission. Nothing and I mean nothing else has failed on this truck. And there isn't a Honda or Toyota made that you can use harder than I've used this truck. Last time I checked they don't even sell a Honda that can tow a 555 dozer on a GN flatbed behind it. Or 29 round bales either for that matter. I drove Chevy trucks for 20 years and also made fun of Dodges. Now I wouldn't own another piece of junk Chevy if you gave it to me. As far as Toyota's are concerned I've got 2 toy driving buddies and I've seen their repair bills for blown headgaskets, clutches, frontends etc... One of them was just recently out at the farm to cut a load of wood with his toy truck. He smoked his 2nd clutch with a shortbed load of wood trying to pull out of my ravine. And everyone knows how small the bed on a toy truck is. I pulled his loaded truck with my fully loaded truck up the hill and out of the ravine then loaded him on a trailer and hauled him to the shop again. He only has 150,000 miles and has had to replace 2 clutches and the headgasket along with having the frontend rebuilt. Not to mention the cheap interior that is Chevy Chevette quality of the mid 70s.

I like this scenario:

You're sitting there with a Ford or GM loyalist watching cars go by on some road somewhere. This 10 year-old Ford/GM product with more rust than body, barely running, belching white smoke, wheels falling off, leaving a trail of parts behind it, goes by. The Ford/GM guy looks at it and says "See that? Still on the road... them trucks last forever".

5 minutes later, a 10 year-old Dodge with more rust than body, barely running, belching white smoke, wheels falling off, leaving a trail of parts behind it, goes by. That same Ford/GM guy looks at it and says "Dodge. What a total piece of junk! Look at that piece of garbage! They can't even make a truck that holds together! Blah blah... ".:-laf

fortunately we live in a place where we HAVE 3 manufacturers to compete against each other for customer loyalty. growing up i was a "GM" man. in the early 70's i hated dodge because of their lean burn garbage. the school i worked at had a plymouth wagon that broke down about once every 2 weeks and used alot of oil.

in 84 when dodge came out with the caravan, it was exactly the size i was looking for. i bought one with much doubt. that same year we got a 84 honda accord for my wife. suffice it to say, the caravan was around alot longer than the honda. i have been driving caravans ever since. the cummins is the first new non caravan vehicle i have purchased since then. i also have fords and they are fine cars, and one GM beast that is my "baby". i have respect for all of the manufacturers. some are better at certain styles (car/van/truck) than others. brand loyalty is like religion and oil selection. some people can only see their side of it. others can appreciate the differences for what they are. if the cummins would have been in a ford (whole different subject), i would have probably bought that. it's important to look at all the features, reliability and creature comforts in a vehicle before deciding WHO to buy. beyond that, opinions are like a*s holes --- everybody has one. :-laf

Next time someone starts running their mouth about how great their Ford or Chevy is, ask them why. Ninety-nine point nine % of Ford or Chevy owners bought one because their daddy did, or it was the first thing they saw on the lot, so they probably won't have a single fact to back up the claim. Then start asking them some simple questions, like what axles they have on their Ford, what is their engine's TBO, was their frame hydroformed, do they have a live axle on the front end, what size are the ring gears, how much torque does the end produce, etc. When they look at you with a clueless look on their face, educate them on the Dodge/Cummins combo. You can't loose... the facts are stacked on your side. Cummins owners do their research... you never see a Cummins guy switching to PSD, but there is a lot of Ford guys going the other way.

Ford and Chevy have the volume market... . they make their vehicles as cheaply as possible in order to maintain their market share. Dodge, on the other hand, can not win the volume market so they cater to the buyer who is more interested in quality. Its akin to Volkswagon and Porsche... there is a lot more VW's on the road, but that doesn't make them better!

Dodge sells a lot of 1500's around here, so it's not just the Cummins that sells Dodge trucks. In the 1/2 ton market, I think Dodge has the cab of choice.

Dogging the Dodge

I feel that MOST of us would NOT buy just a diesel if it did'nt have CTD in it. So are we all Dodge crazy or CTD crazy. BTW I also have a POS Dodge B150 van with 270K for work.

when I first bought my dodge and drove it home

My dad walked out side and said YOU BOUGHT A DODGE what the hell where you thinking, you dumb A**. Needless to say I was starting to regrett my decision. I got ragged on by all of my family and all of my families friends. I need to mention that everybody in my family and all of their friends own Ford Power Jokes!... I have owned my truck for 4 months now and absolutly LOVE IT:D When I bought it, it had 63,000 on it know it's puching 80,000. I get great thrills pulling the same loads that my family does, get better fuel economy, go just as fast up hills and have a much better built engine.

Greg :D

I purchased my first Dodge, first brand other than a Chevrolet. I brought it home after buying it, and not showing my father. He said, well I hope it gets you around as well as that Z71. I was like, yea, yea, yea. After catching him talking to mom and saying "it sure is a good looking truck" that weekend, I took off and went back to college. When returning home after 2 weeks away from my new baby, I find that he has been driving it. Now, 2 1/2 years later, he has jumped the fence, after years of driving his 1/2 ton Chevy getting 12 mpg, and myself driving my 3/4 ton and still getting a solid 19 mpg. He has purchased himself a 98 dodge 12Valve. And has loved every minute of it. He has had the truck for 3 months now, and the truck has been waxed 5 times (no joke). After moving the Chevrolet to the front yard (about 2 months ago, trying to sell it, and it still sits there, for sale, and no bites) his dodge has taken front and center in the garage. Now we are working on tryign to get rid of his Chevy, my friend and I have bought and sold 4 Dodges in this time, with no trouble selling.

Its like the saying goes "Once you go Dodge, you never go back"

I've been a licensed driver for, lemme see... 38 years. My first (legal) driving experience was in a Dodge sedan. I owned an original 1955 Dodge pickup with a factory Hemi, a 1966 A-100 pickup with the 225 Slant 6, and a few others, and for 16 years and over 150 thousand mostly trouble free miles, I drove a 1987 D-150, again with a Slant 6. It took both my daughters back and forth to college, pulled my travel trailers all over the Eastern US, hauled tons of plywood and 2x4's for home improvement projects, and lots of other trips, and it NEVER failed me. I took care of it, but I didn't 'baby' it. During those 16 years, my dad owned 3 Fords, and 2 Chevys, and one Dodge D-50, some pickups and 1 or 2 vans, but he didn't get near the service out of any 2 of those that I got from my 1987 Dodge. If Dodge hadn't been so dependable for me, I might consider a Ford. I have owned a few that were, well, 'ok', but none as trouble free and downright dependable as the Dodges. I did own 3 Chevys in my life, only because 2 of them were 1963 2 door Impalas, and they were bought as investments. It worked, I got more than I paid for them. The 3rd, a POS I won't even name, convinced me that anyone would have to chase me down and beat me with a stick to GIVE me another Chevy of any type. Except a 'Vette. If it was free, and I didn't have to drive it or keep it, I might take it. Can you say "MOPAR"?

I started out in a 90 Dakota, loved it. Then onto a 95 F-150, liked it. Then I got a 94 F-250 PSD and loved it with a diesel. But last Nov I returned to the Dodge. You can leave but you always come back.

I find the D-max guys rag on my Dodge. But thats just cause inside they are ****** off they didn't get a Cummins.

Can I pipe in?????

I've always had dodges, always will. Brand loyallty is so blind, I glanced over the others and I barely noticed them. The dodge CTD had my heart racing, drooling all over it. So I understand the ford and GM crowd, but there so misguided.

CTD was done right from the start, then they improved on perfection with the second gen. When they became fashionable and the engineers wives started driving them they needed to become more car-like. enter 3rd gen.

Now someone needs to buck the system and design a REAL truck again. JOB RATED!!! And give birth to the 5th gen.
