Why does the XZT run so hot??

I just put in some gauges and installed a Quad ZXT and went out for a quick burn... The boost spiked up to 40psi and the egt's went up to 1400*... what up with that... Ive owned powerstrokes for years and never had egt's that high... even when towing heavy loads... . do these Cummins take that kind of heat... now in kinda nervous to tow with this thing... .

It is common to see EGTs go over 1400, even completely stock. I saw 1450 on a good pull towing a 14k 5vr to Talladega last year. Completely stock, cat and muffler went missing in action.

Year before last I put gauges on my 04' right before we pulled our 30ft TT from the S. F. bay area up to Bend, OR. Immediately I almost wish that I hadn't. In town just pulling away from stoplights I was up in the 12-13 range and pulling the grade from Redding to Weed in the 1400. This is pre-turbo. The only mod. is the Bully Dog airbox. My 01. 5 with the 5 speed never ran this hot. It may have to do with the increased hp/tq.

One problem you have is that the stock turbo is way out of its efficiency range pushing 40 psi. It can not move enough air so it adds heat to the process.



The "600" Cummins was updated to withstand higher than traditionally recognized EGTs. The exhaust manifold is a better alloy and the pistons are cooled from below by oil spray. My stock '06, measured post turbo, easily hits 1050 just driving up the hill empty.

EGT's will run cooler at 40spi than it does at 32 psi. Even stock. I promise you.

With Quads XZT I see LOWER temps than stock. Quicker cool down times also. Alot quicker.
