I'm with JHByers on this one. People are angry with Big Oil when they should be angry with the worthless politicians in D. C. along with the tree huggers and the EPA. As far as I'm concerned they can all go jump in a creek, we'd all be a lot better off without them.

No offense taken. After doing some research, I see the company I work for is ranked number 3 in top performers with a 1284. 5% profit increase since 2005. That makes me feel a lot better paying $4. 00/gal. for a fuel. :)

FORTUNE Global 500 2007: Top Performers, Top companies, Biggest Increase in Profits

Kinda funny, Exxon doesn't even make the top 50 of top performers according to that list. You guys want to run that bit by me again about "big bad oil".

JHBuyers Ah the wonderful sounds of children crying over spilled milk. It's to bad all you whiners don't wake up and realize that the cost of fuel is a result of ridiculous and insane government regulation and taxation but hey go on crying foul over those crooked oil companies and see where it gets you.

See this link for how much your state charges in fuel taxes. Taxes by State

My state charges $0. 36 per gallon on gas per that link. Other sources I found indicate that its a bit less; like this page.

Gas Taxes

So, depending on who's right, I pay $0. 39 to $0. 50 tax(fed and state) tax per gallon of diesel.

Federal fuel tax according to this page SDDOT - Fuel Tax Information

The per gallon Federal Motor Fuel Excise Tax is 18. 4 cents on gasoline, 13. 6 cents on LPG, 24. 4 cents on diesel fuel, 18. 4 cents on gasohol, 19. 4 cents on aviation gas, and 4. 4 cents on jet fuel. These monies go to the Federal Highway Trust Fund.

The U. S. uses approximately 20 million barrels of oil a day

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/other-members-only/198537-what-s-barrel-oil.html

This thread says that out of a 42 gallon barrel we get

51. 4% or 24. 9 gallons for gasoline

15. 3% or 7. 4 gallons for fuel oil

The way I add this up we use approx. 20 million barrels x 15. 3% = 3,060,000 gallons of diesel a day, x . 244 federal fuel tax = $746,640 per day, x 365 =$7,007,252,360. per year revenue just federal diesel tax alone.

20 million barrels x 10,280,000 gallons of gas per year, x $0. 18 = $1,850,400. per day tax, x 365 = $6. 75 billion per year federal revenues on gas.

That amounts to 13. 82 billion revenues; the oil companies worked to get that profit. Just what did our federal goverment due?

Thinking..... we need hang a LOT of politicians out to dry, not Big Oil.

Oh, and if you did the math on state fuel taxes, the sum would be at least as much if not more than the revenues collected by the fed.

Right on! That was my next arguement MEby, the taxes on fuels are ridiculous. Our lovely legislature in the great tax and spend state of Nebraska just voted to raise the gas tax 1. 2 cents. They're also going to vote on a budget bill that would include a 3. 5 cents increase in the gas tax per gallon. I can't understand for the life of me how little ol' Nebraska can be in the top 10 of highest taxed states.

Aside from all that, when can we expect the next big price hike for fuel? Hopefully the oil companies keep their profit at the same reasonable level they have at present, many industries would take unfair advantage of the present unsettled world affairs, but seems the oil companies are dealing extremely fair to their loyal customers, and probably suffering the same hardships as were all are. Oil does NOT grow on trees you know. (Banana planters laughing all the way to the Bank, try that in your tank!).
