2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Why Doesn't My Truck Have a Rear Sway Bar?

See sig for truck description. I don't know what options my truck has, but the truck was ordered with pretty much everything in it but leather.



I've noticed some trucks (most of the ones I've seen) have a rear anti-sway bar along the axle. Secondly, I've also noticed some trucks have huge spring packs with large overload springs. My truck has neither. What gives? I have a small leaf pack with 3 regular springs and one overload spring and no sway bar.



Any ideas?

I think the camper package option may have included the sway bar, but I seem to remember having to specify that I wanted the sway bar when I ordered the truck. The multi leaf over loads were switched to single leaf around '00, not sure of the reason though.

Sway bar and overloads are part of the camper package.

which explains why some trucks have a tow hitch under the bumper and others don't.

The sway bar is nice for hauling heavy loads in the bed. While hauling a full bed of oak firewood, the sway bar helped control the Elvis Hips action that I've seen other trucks do. I have the towing package, camper package, and plow prep package.

The sway bar makes the ride terrible when there is no load. I have the sway bar on mine. For daily unloaded driving it is a pain.

Yep, they are correct about the camper package and tow package. Thought I was getting a anti-sway bar and overload (helper) springs, but didn't. The salesman (special order)misinformed me.



JC Whitney sells the Hellwig sway bar and overload (helper) springs. If you tow, it will make a vast improvement in the truck's stability. Aftermarket Hellwig is better than OEM.

Just to add the 4X2 perspective, the camper package also gets you 7/8 inch worth of spacer block between the axle and bottom spring. It appears to be there to avoid the "squatted" look when there's a camper in the bed.

The only trucks that i have seen without sway bars are trucks without any limited-slip package.

I think the only things the camper group consisted of were the sway bar and the overload springs.

I have the LSD and no swaybar.

The rear sway bar came with the camper package. Includes more rear spring and lets a 3200 lb camper be carried. Also, makes unloaded ride choppy. Takes about 1000 lbs to soften rear suspension. Velvet ride shackles were no real help. Thinking about air.

Yep I use it for that as well. To be honest that is a hidden benefit of the truck. Sometimes, on nights of drunken bar hopping, I may even need the overloads and sway bar.
