Why doesn't the TDR site remember my password?

When I enter it Windows XP asks me if I want it to remember the login info - but the next time I use it, it's gone - unless I don't turn off the PC.

That's a function of windows - and it doesn't work all that well. You probably have cookies disabled on your machine in the internet zone. You can make the TDR site a "trusted" site and that will allow the cookie to be set for the forums. What's stored in the cookie is your username and password and will automatically log you in.
