Why don't ricers paint their body kits?

I guess I was implying that between the quality of the install and the likelyhood of damage, etc. , why bother? It's still a ricer no matter what color you paint it.



Maybe they figure they're going to be in the body shop before long and let them deal with it then.

In a sad way, that makes sense.

I can accept people wanting to do things purely for looks. It's their perogative. However, ricers with unpainted/wrong color/multi-color body kits cannot possibly be into it "for looks". There simply must be something else going on here.



How can you spend $500 or more on something that you think looks nice, then just slap it on the car without painting it properly so it ends up looking like complete junk!? Or am I wrong - do people actually find the primer look appealing?



I have been seeing more and more primer-only cars driving around... maybe it's the "new look"?

Primer is so 2003 out here in CA. The rest of the Country gets the fads a few years later... :-laf Of course, I have seen some of these cars just burn up mustangs and camaros... primer or not...



But for the most part, most of these kids are trying to break into the 15's and impress the other kids watching them street race. Looks are secondary.

I used to work with a computer consultant who had a Honda. He was in his mid 30's, he was a mechanic before switching to computers like myself. He was single and could afford any car he wanted, but he picked building rice cars. He really enjoyed it. He had a brand new $35K honda he put a carbon fiber hood on, and did not paint it. I asked him "why". He said as much as he paid for that carbon fiber hood, he wants it to look like a carbon fiber hood"



He also had a turbo on this Honda. As a job he was an expert on Unix type OS and he was in the process of hacking the ECM and writing his own code for it, until he leaned it out one day and took out all the pistons (with around 10K miles on the car)

That's the point I was going to make. If they painted the body kits, the kit would blend in too much. All the chicks wouldn't notice that the car is "custom"!

Saw a guy a while back that made a "wing" for his truck lid. Was made out of a piece of plywood and 2x4s. Bare wood, of course.

I guess those guys with the primer cars are waitin for us to come along and paint their cars black with smoke. I can understand some of the ricers, say the Evo's, STi's and the like. My friend has a 300zx and it is a very cool car, although not over the top. Its the 1. 6 liter civics I don't understand. If you're gonna do something like that do it right.

Alright, let's face it: ricers (and many other people) just assume that "if it's on a race car, it must be good". Period. Absolutely no critical thought involved. It simply never occurs to many people to question what race cars do in terms of applicability to ordinary cars.



Shoot, I've run into the same opinions right here at TDR!

I get a kick out of the front airdams on the ricers... ... . especially when they turn in to a parking lot and scrape and crinkle it.



Then it drives away with the airdam dangling and shaking with serious scratch marks on it... ... . then the farty sound with the blue smoke coming out... ... you got to laugh !!



I have occasionally pinched them off in traffic just to frustrate them and it allways ends up the same... ..... they punch it when they see daylight with a angry look on thier face with trailing blue smoke.



Guess if you have that sort of power you can't just drive normal... . he he he.

Problem is, I think they really do believe things like "yellow = fast"

That is the exact reason I bought my 79 RX-7 to replace my 83. It is yellow from the factory,so that must mean it is the fastest one ever made right?



On a serious note. I am a fan of old import cars especially the RX-7,but I hate the ricification(is that a word?) of them. I like the cars to look clean,and simple,without spoilers,stickers,and body kits. I think some of these cars(early 70's-late 80's cars) can be as cool in the future as we think cars from the 60's are now,if they are original,and well kept. I am sure no one on this site agrees with me,but it is my opinion. These cars were usually not as powerful, or as fast as cars from the 60's-70's,but have character,and uniqueness that most of todays cars lack. I would rather drive my 79 RX-7 than most other cars on the road today,but then again I have been called wierd before,and even by family. My $. 02.
