I would think this would be ok? Why not just remove the grid block itself and drop intake down to plenum? No? What's your thoughts?

could do that but you would have to get shorter bolts, change intercooler pipeng and it may interfear with the #1 injector line. not sure though. it's just as easy to gut it and stick it back in. it also straightens the path of air so it isn's so turbulent going into the intake manifold.

When I went with a chrome intake plate that is exactly what I did... ..... gut it.

It still starts with snow on the ground so thats good enough for me.

Doesn't someone make an empty block to replace it?

That way you could put your heater back in if you were ever in the real cold stuff.

QUOTE--not familiar with what your talking about but you could fab out a block of aluminum cant ya? QUOTE

Yeah, that is what the "delete" plate is. Here is one that GDP makes and sells. Nice unit and goes with their horn very well. For under $70. 00 it's probably well worth being able to put your grid heater back in just in case the dealer or the governor wants to see it. I have had no codes with this plate in place and the grid heaters removed and disconnected, although it is my understanding that some vehicles WILL throw codes. GREAT customer service too at Glacier Diesel Power too!!

i thought you were just trying to save money. many make the block fbd, glacer, winspeed and cummins to name a few. none of the industrial 5. 9 cummins come with grid heaters and cummins has a block there i had the part number but can not find it at this minute.

Back when I was searching for HP for my 12 valve and dyno testing every change, I tried the Twin Ram air horn without the grid heater. I got -2 HP, meaning no change within the limits of experimental error. I believe that removing the grid heater will not help HP, and of course, will limit usefulness in cold weather.

gutting it doesn't do anything... you can just use a 1st gen plenum plate and a cummins spacer if you really want to get rid of it, but you're not going to see any performance difference
