Why have a sleeper on a dumptruck?

Wimpy GM 4x4 tie rods

Long term diesel fuel storage.

OK, I've seen a few of these and I've always wondered why as the dumptruck is normally a short distance hauler. What are they used for; naps, mobile office space, clandestine rendevouz?

you wanted to know

the reason I know is :

We preload paper from Middletown, Oh in the evening about 630-8pm. We have to be south of Williamstown,Ky at 6am next morning. Either we can get up at 4am to be there, or drive down nite before and get full nites' sleep.

I have a truck driving friend who hauls scrap metal to a place 9 hours away, he drives down at night, sleeps, when they open he dumps, then drives back. Its not one of those monster sleepers if that what you are talking about.

Tractor/trailer

I have a friend leased to a gravel company, he has a 102" sleeper on his tractor. He had a run that hauled a speicial sand from the east coast to various locations in the US. It was used for a filtering agent in large swimming pools. The sand was orginally from the middle east.

A lot of trucks in this area haul bulk high silicate sand from the Port of Savannah to the surrounding states. The sleeper comes in handy for them.

a sleeper also gives the driver a chance to show time in the bunk... ... . this gives him additional time to pound the road ... ... ... ... ..... most log books lie, its a shame but its the only way you can make any $$$

lying logbooks

lets just say that someone I know shows 60 hrs. a week, yet drives 100+ hrs. I think they (logbooks) are a waste of time. Drive til you are getting tired, then sleep. Everyone is different.

The County Guys need them the most

Most of them I have seen are asleep in the driver's seat. I think they would be more comfortable with a sleeper to use between their two 30mi hauls a day. :D

Some of the ones I see are bought used and it's easier to find a truck that has a sleeper. Why by a new truck when you are going to run it into the ground in short order. I have seen a brand new T2000 with sleeper being used as a gravel truck. Mabey he has to haul dirt along ways like others have mentioned, I just thought he sold his house to buy the truck and got the sleeper so he had a place to sleep:)
