I attended the Los angles illegal alien show today, oops i mean la auto show and sat in the back of a 05 2500 crew cab. The backseat is not significantly larger than my 96 truck. The only obvious improvement is 4 doors. But then you have 2 extra seals, 2 extra window motors, 4 extra door hinges. More things to fail...

My 95 is running better everyday with the exception of the transmission, after 165000+ k. No reason to change. Maybe after I pass 500000 I might consider a new one

I had to sit and think about this awhile.

1. Mines paid for!

2. What will a 03-05 give me that mine won't do? Nothing really

3. It's fun modifying the 02 and why start over.

4. Mine has proven itself and deserves the chance to try for 500,000 miles

5. New bells and whistles doesn't deserve my money.

6. You guys please buy them take them to the dealer to work the bugs out so by the time the last model year of the 3rd gen comes out I can by one that is more dependable and less bugs.

Either way, just motor down the road with a Cummins.

When the 24 valvers came out the same was said about them .

I still believe the best are the 12 valve motors due to simplicity and reliabilty, you can't beat'em even though in stock form they are pigs .

I said that about the 24 valvers and still say it. My old tired (hee hee  ) '95 has 234K miles on it with the original lift pump.

Remember the first generation owners said the same thing about the 2nd gen trucks. I'd still take a 1st gen with NP205 T-case, locking hubs.

I had a 93 third gen and would never go back. I like having brakes. It was a nice looking truck, even my wife thought it had more personality. However is was very crude compared to my 2001. 5. Exhaust brake was useless because TC did not have a lock up. SNOKING

Im so busy fixing my 2nd gen I havent got time to think about trading for another one of dodges project trucks. I have worked on just about every end of this truck trying to make it reliable and safe for the road. Every thing I fix never really is fixed. Death wobble is my major trouble now and has been for 6 months. Good thing for me having a free company van to drive and chase parts. This may be my last dodge

What EGR valve? all I can say is this thing is light years away from my 99 for once I can stop on hard wet surfaces whew!!!!! :-laf . this is one remarkable vechical!!!!!

Mac

I'm happy with mine... I was looking at a new 3rd gen when I came across this one. With 50K miles on it, I plan to stay with it a long time. The local Dodge dealer follows up with me every once and a while basically trying to understand my decision. Why not new he asks? I told him this is new! Great truck! :)

I'd love to find a nice regular cab '92 or '93 4x4 to fix up.

Learn about the cracks in the cab in the area near the bottom of the A pillar and check that out if you buy one, and do not get the Auto. Big wheels and tires, and a Warn front bumper really makes for a nice looking rig. I will try to find a picture to scan of my old 1993. SNOKING

93 Reg Cab. I traded this truck in at Lynnwood Dodge North of Seattle in June 2001, I have seen it a couple times in the North end of Seattle. I had it for 7 years or so. Low mileage when I traded it in. Waste gated Turbo and Banks Exhaust. Really needed somes brakes. I think there are aftermarket brakes available now for first gen trucks, but it was scary towing with it.

OH, yeah! I did not know about the weight police then. Truck weighed around 6500 plus that Lance 11 footer at 3500 of so, equals about 10K and truck was a 8600 GVWR rig. Blue light, Blue light! New shocks helped, but the 12. 5x33x16. 5 tires were bouncy. SNOKING

Why haven't I traded?

1. MONEY!!!

2. Don't like the way they look

3. Doesn't have a 12v under the hood

4. Electronic stuff and computers galore

5. If I get a 4 door, I'll get a real 4 door from Bayer or someone similar

My 98. 5 was made in the USA in St. Louis MO. To the best of my knowledge all the new Cummins equipped trucks are made in Mexico. The only reason I bought my VW was because nobody made a diesel powered car in the USA. If I were to buy another truck, which is unlikely because I like my 98, it would be whatever Ford I have to buy to get the Cummins engine. As far as I know the Big diesel Fords are made in the USA.

Chris

This ought to stir some people up :D

F650's and up made in Mexico

Because they still haven't grown on me enough and they are too stinkin' quiet! There's also that just can't put my finger on it styling screw up that makes it look odd. I think it's the increased rake in the windshield. Oh yeah and it's made in Mexico :)
