What makes you say that diesels are a dog off the line? Some of the diesel engines in cars are actually faster off the line then their gas equivalent!

Is the 7.3 power stroke the only (somewhat recent) naturally aspirated diesel in a consumer (non comercial) pick-up?

By somewhat recent, I mean since 1990 ish

The Powerstroke was never offered without a turbo, that was the 7.3 IDI which was mechanically injected where the 7.3 Powerstroke uses a HUEI system so very different overall.

I'm a conservative driver---my lyometer is sitting on 24 mpg after 400 mi since fill-up including a 250 mi trip and a 6 mile funeral drive procession---I've bought one set of tires in 177k miles. With the whole tale of this thread going from way out in left field to foul ball off first base, allow me one observation, please. With the exception of the "John Force" types and teeny boppers in little Japanese cars, my stock sig truck with a low stall converter is effortlessly a half truck length into an intersection after the light changes before most vehicles (drivers) know what happened. Ain't nothing like immediately available Cummins torque! Driving it is as easy as falling off the proverbial log. If a mother couldn't drive it, she needs to give up/have taken her driver's license.

If anyone wants to drive a great diesel car try a BMW 6 cylinder diesel. I have driven my mother's 99 530d mainly in the mountains and on Spanish autovias. Blasting up the Col de Puymorens (google maps) there is nothing like the mid-range torque to get you up the hill. I remember a 580 mile journey on Spanish motorways/highways which we did in 9 hours, average speed over 60 mph. Relaxed cruising at 90 mph+(unless my father aged 89 drove). Maybe someone could explain what is meant by my not driving a diesel like my mother's car?
