Nope! Look at the window sticker on my Signature.

You get the 11. 50 with the Cummins option. The 10. 5 is standard with the Hemi I think.

You're right about the overload springs tho.

My 2500 never received the memo about the 11. 5" pumpkin... . I guess I have to take that back and ask for a 10. 5". . That seems like the ethical thing to do!

Wow! Tough crowd! #ad

This thread is interesting. The 2500 guys want to prove that their trucks are practically as good as the 3500's and the 3500 guys want to prove that their trucks are significantly better than the 2500's.

Sadly, it appears neither is true.

62 Carl- where y'all from?

I am from the great province of Saskatchewan, where we can load our trucks has heavy as we want. No point spending the extra money for a one ton when a half ton has the same size of bed and can haul just as much. :-laf

the '03 2500 SO Auto's have the 10. 5, all others use the 11. 5! the 2500 HO auto's and the 2500 manuals and ALL 3500's use the 11. 5. there are no SO's after '03 so we all got 11. 5's unless you have a '03 SO auto. the 3500's get the overloads.

the 2nd gens are similar, the autos all got the D70 and ALL manuals got the D80. the tires are the main difference in the second gens. (you could get a 2500 with the camper special group that is the same as a 3500 springwise. )

7) Some people like the 3500 badge because it makes them feel more macho.

OK that's it, all of you guys who thought you were so cool with your Kore suspension and removed your overload springs, hand over your 3500 badging. And you thought the suspension would make you more macho, tsk, tsk, tsk. By the way please do the ethical thing and cross out the additional 900lbs from your door sticker. (All said in jest).

As was #7 above... . #ad

I bought extra 3500's for mine, I'm tossing the 3's and 0's and peeling off the 3's on the truck, this should make mine good for 26000 GVWR. (FYSH 5500)

I'm selling the 3's on E-Bay as an Upgrade from 2500 to 3500, I thinks I should get $2200 for it (Dodge Does). Lights Extra but not required, for $50 more I'll delete the cab lights.

I too have read all of the posts on this thread and found nothing worthy of a personal slam on Tim. If he has angered people on another website or a thread on this one--leave it there! It is far more disappointing to see regular posters engage in childish rhetoric and newer posters seemingly find the TDR as a place to bring the written road rage that Gary wrote of earlier.

Despite how one may feel about a particular matter regarding anything, I think it is important to note that adolescent response and personal attacks make us ALL look bad.

I have been reading the TDR magazine since I got my 94 Dodge and always enjoyed the varied opinions of the members here. And Today I enjoy reading of varied opinions about trucks, parts, politics, and just about everything one could imagine. I have however never felt the need to disrespect anyone for their different opinion. After all, if you all thought like me I wouldn't bother to log on.

So, In a world of friction, small minds and hate, can't we simply treat each other with the respect of friends who agree to disagree?

Doesn't mean we can't have spirited debate, but at he point we are sarcastic and call each other names... .

Holy Crap! Eggs Marie!!!

This is from the window sticker on my 2004. 5-

4-Speed Automatic Transmission $1,095

11. 50 Rear Axle

Should I take my truck back? Since it is not supposed to have a 11. 50" rear axle?

It's hard to do when "everyone here" has been referred to as a "moron" and they should just "get over it" in regards to tangible problems/issues on their $40k investment.

Here's an example:

"Either way, the morons that don't even own one really need to quit their whining. The ignorance is so deep I think I need my chest waders just to visit the site anymore. "

You can read all about it here:

Ranting Post

Now I never threw any insults at anyone and actually tried to be objective and identify the issues in this thread and others when I thought they might be getting off track. In that way, I think I've tried to be a peacemaker. But do I have to leave my sense of humor at the door? I can laugh at myself as much as anyone. Why is everyone so thin-skinned? Lawyers are getting rich because people can't just turn the other cheek and laugh at themselves.

I can understand why some people would want to vent. I'm not venting, mind you, but I can understand it. How many times should you be referred to as a moron before you can vent? The "so called road-rage attacks" are localized reactions to prior offensive commentary. I may not agree with them -- I find them a bit over the top -- but it is understandable & amusing, in a Jerry Springer sort of way.

I enjoy a good sense of humor. And let me be clear about one thing. I am many things but I am not a moron. If I was, I'd admit it, be proud of it and laugh about it. I think more people need to do the same and start laughing.

Best response--

None. If a post is not worthy of a response just ignore it. Why lower yourself? If we all just ignored posts we felt were offensive, these kind of posts would all but go away. Someone calling me a moron is humorous. Tell me something I don't know. :p You should see what they call me at work :-laf

Lets keep it positive. The instigators are looking for some kind of release for insecurity.

Dr Phil stepping off the soap box. :-laf

I have a 2500 and 3500 and they are both great trucks. After all, they are CTD's :D

"That may certainly be true of the 3rd gens. It wasn't true of the 2nd gens. The 3500 had a heavier rear axel, bigger brakes, overload springs, and always had dual rear wheels. "

I beg to differ with this statement. I have a 2001 SB HO and have the exact same rear end of a 3500 (Dana 80) minus the extra set of tires. The springs and overloads are the same. The axle is rated at 11,500 lbs.

For the love of Pete people need to grow up. As a relative newbie here and impartial observer, this is getting asinine how any Post of Tim’s degrades, generally to no fault of his own. I am not going to go back and ready every post of his, but I have never seen him personally attack anyone like the crap he gets from a select few on this board.

I have, I've seen Tim attack many times and he does it viciously. Tim does not think about what he is saying nor what hurt it creates to others. He deserves everything he get here because he can sure dish it out, but he can't take it. Tim is very cocky and tries to act like some great authority, but he knows little about the subject being discussed. If Tim could only keep his mouth shut and his ears open, maybe he could learn something. Grizzly

They may very well be, like I said I am not going to go back and read every post. If you go back and read THIS thread however, there was nothing inflammatory about what he said. Other posters turned this into an inflammatory post. I am not here to stick up for Tim and I certainly don't always agree with what he says, but if you have a problem with things he said in other posts leave them there, or start a new post to have your ***** session about him. Better yet, be the better person and voice your opinion to the moderators and let them police the site. I am just saying as an impartial observer its getting old having every thread he starts or posts in head straight down the toilet.

Tim is certainly not the first person to talk about the limitations our trucks may have with their ratings and the difference between the 2500 and 3500. The idea of this post is a valid discussion for people who want to stay within published ratings for whatever reason.

Regardless, they are awesome trucks and each one serves it's purpose very well :)

I wish I had pictures of our 77 GMC shortbed halfton truck hooked up to our 24 ft gooseneck stock trailer with 8 horses and fully loaded down with feed and tack. Of course we "modified" the truck. It had 1. 5 ton springs on it and a circle track 454 "built" sitting in the front. We could do 70 up the hills, and 90 on the flats. At the time (1992) nobody in our group could keep up with us, but then again, nobody was driving a dodge either. :-laf
