why is diesel more than 60% more than gas??

ok I am looking for a reason beyond the typical because they can charge more answer. we are at $1. 39 for gas and 2. 25 for diesel, remember when the last time gas was this much, diesel surely wasn't more than $2 a gallon.

Yep, thanks to ULSD our refined diesel can now be blended to meet european specs and is exported now more than ever.



Another good bet for current diesel prices compared to gas is that we are now in the home heating oil season, with which diesel directly competes, unlike gasoline.



Another reason is gas is a little more "elastic" when it comes to supply and demand. In the current economy demand for both are dropping, but gas consumption will drop more and before diesel consumption.

current price of nymex gas is trading at 1. 05/ gal, and heating oil is trading at 1. 48/gal, so that means a . 43 spread add in the higher tax of . 06/gal, that is . 49 more /gal, so I am wondering why we are seeing an . 84/gal spread in my area. who is pocketing the extra . 35/gal and where is that going.

i would have to think that the simple answer is..... unlike old number 2, now it is SUPER DUPER low sulfer:-laf. That probably equates somewhere to a higher refining process, with the refining and then testing (to make SURE it is in gov't specs ) Well uncle sam, maybe you should be watching me in my 78 Terex Scraper with the screaming double breasted yamahas that [i am sure] push out so much more soot and pollutants than any of green tree diesels... ... I had a female customer ask me why produce prices hadn't come down after all price of gasoline came down. I told her it was because farmers used diesel and it was still high.



Of course not only do farmers uses diesel but so do the semi's, trains and ships... and me. Besides Florida is supplying every state above them with produce(but so is California and few south western states.

Its simple, more people are witching to Diesel for the better fuel economy so the oil companys charge more so they can have the same profit at the end of the year. And but having the higher prices now it will make some who are looking at diesels to reconsider and end up with gas engine. But those of us that need the power to tow and keep this country moving just get screwed or pass the cost on to our customers and then the country ends up in a big mess in the long run.

Not really. I don't know anyone who has switched over to diesel since the price of fuels went thru the ceiling that justified it simply on fuel economy. Diesel hasn't been economically viable for light vehicles for over a year, maybe two. With the possible exception of the VW Jettas, diesel auto sales are hurting, and that includes light truck sales. The only reason light truck sales are not totally tanked is the corporates are offering HUGE cash incentives to take them off the lots, and SOME people do need the torque of a diesel pickup in the 3/4 to 1 ton range. Gas pickup sales, including HD models, have taken a jump since fuel costs skyrocketed a while back.

diesel is higher cause its just another way for THEM to put the shaft to us. disel is cheaper to refine- so they get a higher profit off of it. they know diesel is the fuel of the future. that y all the car companies have made/designed/and will produce a fleet of diesl cars/trucks. diesel will never be where it should be. and this ULSD stuff is worthless. i bet my truck would run better if i ****** in the tank.
