Stacks or not?

Is the Cummins really so mighty after all?

The exemption in the Georgia law is because the speaker of the house at that time drove a pickup and would not wear a seatbelt, and wouldnt vote for it, so they changed the law to suit ONE person.

Thankfully this arrogant geezer got creamed in the last election when we cleaned house.

The democrats lost every major office, even elected the first rebublican governor EVER! in the history of GA.

My brother got T-boned in the drivers door, and if he had been wearing a belt he would have been killed, the door was pushed in line with the center of the steering collum, but a big console would have done it too, fortunatly it was a bench seat car.

Then a few months later he rolled MY car, end over end,(a very nice 66 Thunderbird) and was wearing the lap belt and didnt get a scratch.

Im a Libertarian, nothing should be aganst the law unless it violates someone elses life, liberty or property.

the seat belt laws are just another way to move the cash from your pocket to the govts.

Ive also heard that in the UK, if you have a crash without your belt on, the ins co doesnt pay.

this being a private contract between the driver and the ins co.

So they make the laws to prevent or mitigate injury so the society as a whole doesn't have the bear the cost of a personal decision.

But anyone who has to make use of medical help, and those that DO have insurance are STILL paying for it. A $20 Tylenol?

express my concern for all these GOVERMENT DRIVERS speeding, illegal lane changes, obstruction of traffic, wrong lane usage...

Cops included. Running up around 90mph on a road with a 65mph speed limit, WITHOUT the lights or siren on.

I believe in seatbelts

Few months ago, I was working on Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. A 19 year Army veteran was returning from lunch at his home on post, driving about 30 MPH on a two-lane 35MPH street. A car failed to stop on a cross-street and hit his pickup in the left rear, ultimately because he was not wearing a seat-belt, he was ejected out the drivers door window. Pickup was still driveable, the car also. Driver of the car not a scratch. Pickup was thrown in spin, but did not turn over. Because he had no seat-belt, he died within an hour of head injury. I was there, and other than head, he was not injured.

The thorough review of the accident of course found running the stop sign the cause, but all would have lived if a seatbelt was used. Or a helmet.

He had about one mile to travel from his on-base house to work.

I've seen a few too many accidents, but none lethal with so little damage to the vehicles.

BTW - I'm southern born, and now work in Virginia and travel to my home in North Carolina every weekend. I'm a southern-boy with 28 years active in the Army, seen enough carnage for a lifetime. I may go early, but I'll be strapped in and wearing all the protection I can find.

I wear my seat belt. Yeah, I am from the south. In MOST cases seat belts do save lives. In the 1980's a truck driver for the worlds largest package company was written up for failing to wear the required seat belt. He ignored the warning. While driving down the interstate, his door came open. Some how, while trying to close his door, he fell out. On the way out he grab his seat belt at about the the time that the drive wheels caught his feet. He lost the battle.

I can tell many other stories, but they are all the same. WE are smarter than the people who decide that we should wear seat belts, and we lose.

good topic but here is my question and or joke

Do the amish have to abide by this seatbelt law in their horse and buggy isnt the seatbelt "new technolgy" and if so isn't that violiating their freedom of religon rights :-laf

being from the south, i can tell you its been hard for me to get used to wearing a belt... my son tanner is 15 and drives (hardship license from the state of texas) and he has always worn a seat belt... maybe its a habit... i run alot of cattle on different places, and its a hassel getting in and out to open gates, and then putting on the seat belt... seems like your thinking about other things... if you have 3000 ac. and about 22 gate to open, you would get tired too... . from field to field, i usually dont... around  the state driving , or in town you better... it seems the law has a bounty on your head for not wearing a seat belt... i know they dont find my 93 dodge that good looking , so they must be staring to see if my belt is on... ... monte

TX born and raised... I always wear a belt

my aunt died as a result of being thrown from her vehicle in an accident. my cousin had his seatbelt on and he got a busted up knee. my aunt didn't have hers on.

I just spent three months in New Orleans on hurricane recovery work. That city is so desperate for money, they placed police on busy intersections just to catch people not wearing their seat belts. Not sure what the fine was, but I'm sure it's hefty. A buddy ran a stop sign and paid $181. I've been wearing my seatbelt as far back as they made them I think. I feel naked if I don't have it on. I do not understand people, like my brother, who are sooooo stubborn about wearing them.
