Yesterday I cleaned the screen in the fuel heater. It didn't have a lot in it but afterwards I crackthe bleeder screw ( I guess thats what it is ) over top of the fuel filter and pump the primer to get the air out. The next day the engine was smooth at 1000 to 1200 insted of shaking as it always does. I think it is slowly geting back to the way it was. when I put the inj. pump back on a few months ago I bled it the same way only insted at the overfow valve and it cleared up for a little while. what should I check? Why does it only clear up for a little while?

Replace the o-ring gaskets on the banjo fittings! They are metal washers coated in a rubber-like material. Mine were all deterriorated from age. They're not big $$, and it's worth it! 2 washers for the intake side of the pump, 2 for the overflow side, and 2 (I think) for the top of the filter.

BCFAST has good advice. Air is getting in somewhere in-between your lift pump and filter. Another common leak point is the o-ring on the manual primer.

Under warranty Dodge replaced mine with copper washers no rubber on them ( I think they are copper anyway).

Remember a post where a member replaced his fuel filter housing either for for fuel leak or air leak. He determined filter wasn't flush against housing.
