Why my Fuel Pressure gauge may not work

Well here goes... .



I got a replacement fuel filter cover from Geno's the other day and installed it today. For the ones that don't know, the fuel filter cover is made of metal (stainless I think) that is polished and has an 1/8th in. NPT thread on the to so you can mount a fuel pressure gauge or sending unit if you want to FPG in the truck.



Anyway. I removed the old filter, plastic cap, old rubber o-ring and drained and cleaned out the filter housing. The OEM fuel filter was a Fleetguard Stratapore (spl?). I replaced the old fuel filter with the same oem type making sure to mount it correctly with the filter "gasket" on the bottom as the instructions say to do. Then put on the new metal top w/ new o-ring gasket. After the new top was on and snug/tight I installed the FPR. The gauge was nothing special, it's a Russell oil filled 0-100 psi fuel pressure gauge about the size of a . 50 piece. I screwed in the gauge till the nut on the gauge bottomed out on the top on the metal cover. Turned on the fuel pump, filled up the canister, checked for leeks and fired it up. Well so far so good, but the gauge did not work. :confused: So I was thinking maybe it takes time, time, time, nothing. :confused: I have on leaks everything looks good, but the gauge is not working. I even drive it around for a wile, nothing.



After all that I call Geno's about the problem. Looking at the top of the old fuel filter I saw the it looks like the top of the fuel filter and the filter cap have a very tight / snug fit. It looks like to me that the fuel has no way to get the the FPG because of the tight fit of the fuel filter to the cap. When I said this to the person at Geno's they said I may need to put a small hole in the top of the fuel filter to let some fuel thru. :( That does not sound right to me. Why would you need to do that. I would think that some of the fuel would now bypass the filter and let trash in the motor.



The bottom line: WHAT DO YOU THINK???



The gauge, the cap, the filter, bad design, or something else?



Any help would be great, sorry for the bla bla bla.

Possible fix

Glock Guru - I have the chrome cap with the fuel pressure sender also. I also just installed the 7 micron filter. Geno's said it may not work because some of the caps underside relief was machined a little smaller. Don't put a hole in the top of the filter. I just notched the top edge of the plastic on the filter and don't get into the filter media itself. It shouldn't hurt anything but let the pressurized fuel get to the sender. Mine reads about 8 to 9 pounds at idle and of course will drop when I accellerate. :eek:
