Father Wants Only The Best For His Truck

Good article. I had an experience about 3 years ago that backs up his theories...

Sitting at a red light in a BAD part of Houston late one night I was rear ended by a vehicle I didn't even see. I was in a 2500 4x4, the other guy was in an MR2. I honestly thought something broke in the drivetrain as opposed to someone hitting me. Anyway, I see what looks like dust in the rear view mirror so I grab my 9mm, slide it under my jacket, and step outside. There was the MR2 with a bashed hood and removed flip up headlights. The headlights were the only thing that hit the bumper. The trailer hitch took the rest of the impact and crumpled his hood. Cops showed up and let me drive OFF his car after taking a report. Damage to my truck: replacement of the rear bumper. Damage to the MR2: it was a total loss.

Just trying to even the scores... .

I know what you mean... I was rearended by a minivan on the freeway. Once we got to the side of the road, I had no damage, but the van's front bumper was bent pretty badly, with a square-shaped indentation right in the middle.

Oh, THAT narrows it down! :D

Have you considered getting one of those bumper stickers that reads: "Smile as you go under... "?

That's why I have a pintle hitch, it's kinda intimidating. Plus I use it as an attachment point for a tow strap. I've even used it once in it's proper capacity. :)

I used to own an MR2, just sold it Sunday.

Hmmm... 2500 truck owners pose a threat to public safety? I don't think so!

Ron's response was great!

That particular day it would have been nice. This happened at the intersection of 59S feeder road and Westpark.

I got rear ended by a rice burner one night in one of my Ferd rangers I used to own in the late 80's. I was at a stop sign, I looked in the mirror and watch her coming as she looked over her sholder getting ready to "merge" at a stop sign.

I had a trailer hitch on this ranger. She hit me so hard it lifted the back of the ranger up as she drove under it. The trailer hitch cut a nice hole through her hood, radiator and through her engine block! I drove home, she was tottled.

Next day I put the truck on a lift, and the frame bent right in front of where the trailer hitch mounts. The hitch has added strenth to the end of the frame, but allowed it to bend up in front of the hitch. Dealer wanted $4000. 00 to fix it. A torch, big pipe wrench and cheeter bar and it bent right back!
